I haven't looked at the race, and I do not think he will have much problem at the distance or with the surface change here. Awesome maria came off a 8 month layoff this year in march makeing her first start back in graded stakes company facing royal delta and groupie doll. She dmolished the field and she wasnt even 100% just needed a race to return to. and after watching a horse with high hopes throw in a clunker like his florida derby where he just couldnt make up ground in the stretch makes me think he wont make a huge impact this year anywhere

Mary Z. · tcglory, I find the comparison of the '12 Sabin, if you are talking about the same race in which Royal Delta stumbled at the start, ran up too close to the lead too early, which was not her style then(although she has never been a dead closer--making that correction to a comment now, because I did wait), was taken back, but the classic distance winning filly that has not done well off of layoffs unless you count the Fleur De Lis exhibition after Dubai, came in second to the shorter route loving Awesome Maria, and just held off the not yet blinkered sprinter Groupie Doll in what would be a sprint to Royal Delta to today's aoc at Gulfstream, in which scratched from tougher races Citrus kid won over the returning El Padrino, to be unfounded. Anyway, I think El Padrino did just fine for his comeback race. Had he kept progressing from his previous stakes win he might have put this field away, but he wasn't yet a top colt before his injury. He only had one graded stakes win, in the Risen Star gr.2. Awesome Maria had a string of stakes wins before her injury and layoff. · 153 days ago ·

Another thing is, I keep track of Royal Delta to put it simply and yah maybe I'm still smirking over seeing her being called overrated after the Sabin. rafirox · TcGlory: Every horse is different. Some have the capability to return off a long layoff and perform well, some don't. Take AK for an example. He had the ability too, along with Awesome Maria. Some like To Honor And Serve didn't. Some throw a clunker, and next out return to their winning ways.On top of that, it also depends on the trainer. Some wait until they think their horse is training as good as ever. Some wait until they are ready to run, but not their normal ability. Take Graham Motion for example. He waited until AK was training as good as ever, and he had the ability to run the best race (IMO) of his life off a long layoff. · 152 days ago ·
