My favorite of all time. Rare talent and great stamina. Six furlongs to mile and a half, who does that anymore, great champion
  • travel_vic · clandestinely injured during his 23 year old year and kept quiet. His "ankle" was enormous over time. Died young of cancer poor guy. · 876 days ago

Uploaded Belmont win from the offical photo
Easy Goer may be the best three year old who did not receive an end of the year award. Winner of the Swale, the Gotham, the Wood, the Belmont, the Whitney, the Travers, the Woodward and Jockey Club Gold Cup. His 1:32 2/5 time in the Gotham was the fastest mile for a three year old ever and only 1/5 off Dr. Fager’s world record. To finish their great rivalry, Sunday Silence prevailed to take Champion 3-Year-Old Colt and Horse of the Year honors.

157th? You've got to be kidding! If not for Pat Day he would have beaten Sunday Silence more than once.

  • travel_vic · I have the PReakness photo and the two are so close at the wire that you would only know that Easy Goer was inside by counting all the legs below · 1653 days ago
The second part of the Sunday Silence rivalry...two top 3 year olds at their prime....at 4 lost to Criminal Type who was Horse of the Year
One of my all time faves.
All you have to say about why Easy Goer isn't one of the all time greatest horses ever is Pat Day. If a handful of other riders had ridden him, he most likely would have never lost a race.
  • humphrey · Have to disagree. EG had chronic fetlock problems and the rider did as well as he could. Horse always broke slow giving the field many lengths. I was sucked in too by this one but outside of his brilliant races in New York, he was not the same animal......Began to wonder when Is It True, thanks to a great reading of the race track by Laffit, beat him in the off going at Churchill,.,.,.the same track and conditions where he lost out to Sunday Silence. · 2098 days ago
  • humphrey · interesting fact: In Easy Goer's 20 race career, he was never defeated by more than 2½ lengths. · 2098 days ago
Easy Goer is one of my all-time favorite colts. But giving credit where it's due, Sunday Silence must have been lightning fast to have beaten Easy Goer 3 out of the 4 times that they faced each other. Because if you watch Easy Goer in his races without Sunday Silence, the Wood Memorial, the Travers, the Woodward, the JCGC, and the Suburban Handicap, that long, powerful, explosive stride that he had completely overwhelmed the fields that didn't include Sunday Silence. But one comment I must make, I don't think anyone questions Easy Goer as an all-time great. But besides the Ky. Derby, the Preakness, and the B.C. Classic, he almost never left the state of New York for any of his other races, yet no one questions his greatness. But because Zenyatta has almost never left the state of California for any other races, a lot of people question her greatness. Hopefully, after the 2010 racing season ends, they won't again.
"Easy Goer with one... final... acceleration... and Sunday Silence... holds-on!"
Easy Goer was a tremendous horse, but once he lost the Derby, he was never going to catch Sunday Silence on those tight turns at Pimlico or Gulfstream.
