I really think they should retire him
Drill will try to get back into the winners circle in the Govenors Cup tonight. Go Drill!!
  • Mary Z. · I picked Kate's Event to win. Big class drop for Drill, but he has not been running well enough in quite a while. Almost picked Drill on overall speed, and maybe I should have, but at evil Fairplex, it's like 6 1/2 f is practically a route. · 1315 days ago

Meanwhile, on the other coast, Drill looks really nice... as does Canonize.
Laz Barrera winner Drill worked in company with stablemate Apriority on Santa Anita’s fast main track Saturday for Bob Baffert. Each was clocked in a bullet 46.20 for four furlongs. Drill rallied to finish fourth after a slow start in the Grade I Malibu last out, but Baffert offered no race for the son of Lawyer Ron’s next start.
I love that there's a son of Lawyer Ron (Drill) AND a son of Sharp Humour (Hero of Honour) AND a son of A.P. Warrior (Thunder Moccasin) winning graded Derby prep races this year. It's like 2006 all over again. :-) If only Barbaro had had some babies before he died... :-(
he is a sprinter
Nice to see they are slowing things down and running him like the G1 winner he is, not a claimer.
I think putting this horse in the Blue Grass is a mistake. Drill has no business going around two turns.
drill has about as much chance of makn a mile and a quarter
So is drill in or out of the road to the kentucky derby, I see he still being listed as a contender ?
Was looking forward to possibly seeing him in KY ! :(
Not sure what to make of Drill. One day he's not running a step and the next he's taking a GII. But I have to say, I think he's beautiful. He certainly looked tremendous in the post parade before the San Vicente.
Looks like Bob is starting to figure this guy out, just let him do whatever he wants and he'll give you a win. Two key factors stated were to ease up on workouts and just let him run however he wants in the race...whatever works.
Drill wins the San Vicente Stakes by a nose. American Act was 2nd and Creative Cause was 3rd

  • Mary Z. · Like the clown that typed in the comment above or the one with the long losing streak? · 1891 days ago
  • joe po · Creative Cause is my #1 pick in the KY Derby. Love his pedigree. Never runs a bad race. Will get 2 more preps before the big dance. · 1891 days ago
I didn't think this horse has any skill, however his last performance wasn't too awful. Maybe if Baffert runs him like the G2 Winner he is and not a claimer he might get somewhere.
Way to go Drill!!!!
Drill is back!
  • GregRiessland · hell yes! i thought he has beat creative cause before and ran well at santa anita, that he would have a real shot. despite his lack of hitting the board each race he slightly improved from his major fall in the bc jv. yes he lost, but he stepped up from each length showing a slow recovery with each race. most horses go off on big odds that do that. i see there was still the fear of drill to come back. · 1892 days ago
His win proved nothing, he will get dominated in his next race.

  • jmcleav · 2nd place American Act in his second career start proved a lot of grit, I hope to see more from him! · 1892 days ago
  • GregRiessland · proved everyone wrong. sounds like someone had creative cause to win. · 1892 days ago
Judging from the post race interview with Baffert, it sounds like he's finally figured this horse out. Could improve further.
like i said.. this horse needs a BREAK!
