Tweeted by the Racing Post: "Dawn Approach began a course of antibiotics yesterday following his below par performance in the Prix Jacques Le Marois at Deauville." "Jim Bolger said: "We scoped him and found some mucus in his lungs. He's on a course of antibiotics and is going to have to have a break."
Dawn Approach and Toronado on course to tangle for a third time in the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood.
I read hes more likely to have hes next start in the Prix Jacques le Marois witch will mean a match up against Intello and style Vendome

  • 6feet to sundown. · I like Intello a lot at this point. I hope he can hold on, and put out a great preformance, and not flop in a sense like ROTR. Not that that would make him a bad colt, I just have very high hopes for him. · 1397 days ago

i love this horse. AWESOME win against Toronado by the narrowest of margins.
I'm a really big fan of Declaration of War and was happy to see him win the G1 Queen Anne Stakes, but after just watching the shear determination of Dawn Approach in the G1 St James's Palace Stakes, I think he's gonna be a very tough beat at a mile for any of the older milers that might come up against him in 2013. Glory Awaits managed to take Magician completely out of the race and nearly took out Dawn Approach and Toronado also with the domino effect. Fortunately for them they were far to the outside that both were able to recover. Excellent effort by Toronado, but I get the feeling Dawn Approach is truly something special at a mile.

In a move that surprised many given recent Epsom Derby flop, Jim Bolger just announced on AtTheRaces.com that Dawn Approach will indeed appear at Royal-Ascot to contest the G1 St. James's Palace Stakes next Tueday. The English 2000 Guineas hero was initially thought to be unlikely for Ascot after his sub-par Epsom Derby performance, but Jim Bolger reports his star colt is on course for a return to a mile!! That's great news, indeed!! I just hope the Epsom Derby didn't take too much out of Dawn Approach? This is one of those rare seasons where we've been treated to superb English 2000 Guineas and a superb Irish 2000 Guineas, and it would be great to see them both at their very best when they lock horns in the St. James's Palace Stakes!!

  • Euro Trash · On the Gallop's- I think that schedule is logical given his brilliance at 8f. Let him mature a year and then stretch him out to 10f. · 1416 days ago
  • Euro Trash · ILuvTurfRacing- I understand your point, but we all knew his only chance was if he settled. He didn't. Instead of looking at it as a flop, I just would call it not a genuine performance and expect better once dropped back where there is a quicker pace for him to settle behind. · 1416 days ago
In fairness to Jim Bolger, from day 1 he's expressed concern about whether or not Dawn Approach would be able to stay 12f. In retrocpect, Bolger should've probably done what Sir Henry Cecil did with Frankel after he thrashed the 2011 English 2000 Guineas and simply ignored all the public outcry to run him at Epsom and stuck to whatever Bolger had laid out as his intended schedule. You get the sense watching Dawn Approach in the Epsom Derby that back at a mile is where there this horse will continue to thrive. He may stay 10f, but even that may be stretching it in G1 company. All that being said, I'm not sure what Bolger has planned next for Dawn Approach? But the prospect of him and Irish 2000 Guineas winner Magician locking horns at Ascot in the G1 St. James's Palace Stakes could make for a very intersting race, IMO.
Does Dawn Approach remain unbeaten today? Will be a thrilling Epsom Derby! Many think his stamina will be tested, though his sire is a Derby winner. I think his test will come from the invaders Chopin from GER and Ocovango from FR. But look to DA to once again to dig deep and finish strongly.
Anyone know a way to watch the Derby this morning?

Anyone know a way to watch the Derby this morning?
For a moment I thought I was watching sea the stars
I just finished watching the replay of the English 2000 Guineas again for about the 4th time, LOL, and save Frankel's win in 2011, I think Dawn Approach ran about as an impressive an English Guineas on Saturday as I've seen in the past decade. He made some very good horses in their right look very average in that race. I personally think Dawn Approach would get 10f standing on his head, and if properly ridden by Kevin Manning I wouldn't even rule his ability to stay 12f, also. That said, I think Jim Bolger will skip the Epsom Derby with him and I think we'll see Dawn Approach turn up next in the G1 Irish 2000 Guineas followed by the G1 St. James's Palace Stakes at Ascot. That's my hunch anyway.
dam that looked really good
All I can is wow!! Anyone who wasn't impressed by that performance needs to find another sport to follow, for real. Dawn Approach just made Toronado, Mars, George Vancouver, and the whole nine yards of the English 2000 Guineas field look like a bunch of claimers!! I so hope Jim Bolger decides to take this colt to Epsom for the Derby!! Dawn Approach looked he could've run on another mile today.

  • Northport · Agreed, uber impressive and I hope he can emulate his equally stunning father in the Derby, but for now I am just happy that he was able to get some redemption since NA lost the guineas to HTN · 1455 days ago
Wins the 2013 2000 Guineas by 4
HRN is constantly getting better and better, it is becoming my 'go to' site even for International events.
