Really disappointed that Hatches is likely to pass on the Delaware Handicap....great rivalry in progress between Close Hatches and Princess of Sylmar. Too bad Hatches' connections don't see the value of letting these two continue this rivalry in the Del Cap.

  • ekindy · Buds, it would only have an effect the first couple of years. After that his stud record takes over. An Eclipse without a BC win might net another million or so, which isn't nothing but not as much as a BC win would have netted. · 692 days ago
  • cedar · With Dan and several mare's of late, we don't have great recent sample for this, but i always felt that Havre De Grace's price tag was greatly inflated thanks to her title · 692 days ago
Likely headed to Personal Ensign on 8-22. Also eyeing Spinster Stakes & BC Distaff per DRF via B. Mott.
In my opinion, she's just as good as beholder an POS.

  • travel_vic · ever hear of FORM CYCLE. NO ONE can predict how this or ANYOTHER animal will be two races down the road. NO ONE · 714 days ago
I disagree somewhat with you ekindy. I think that beholder, while maybe not having the most, has one of the worst.
I wish this filly would get noticed more......
  • Mary Z. · I like her now. I agree, she needs some really loud fans, ha,ha. · 715 days ago
  • cedar · Liked her since early last year, and was my second favorite behind Beholder. Lot of people considered her second rate to beholder and princess, hope that changes after her great 4yo campaign so far · 715 days ago
This is my star of the week. I new she had a great shot at the win, Beholder on the west coast tracks, but Close Hatches or POS in New York, she was due! Nice work

  • Ruffianlover · Nice win for her. Glad to see these top three actually facing each other and not ducking. Sucks we won't get to see the three of them together again since I assume beholders owners won't run her outside of Santa anita again and princess's owner already said no to BC · 721 days ago
  • EP Taylor · I like your pick Buds. She ran a great race. · 721 days ago
I know she'll pull it off!

  • jmac500 · Yeah being that far back was shocking and not wanting a speed duel could of been the issue. · 723 days ago
Her having the tougher tightener races earlier in the season might have given her the edge over the other two who had easy prep, she has gotten better this year Fantastic race!
I knew she was the best out of those three and she showed why, what a performance to win the Ogden Phipps!
YEEESSS! Not great odds, but glad she got it done!

I do think she's the best older filly but that's me.
She is a mini Royal Delta and is just to good.
About to dominate the Apple Blossom!

  • EP Taylor · I think Close Hatches is running tremendously, and you always have to keep in mind that some mares could be in season, and not fully focused on Racing. The fillies I always wait until the summer and fall to see them do their best running. · 779 days ago
  • tmallios · I am not comparing times.Actual times and fractions to me are irrelevant and i never pay attention to them. Based on how i handicap,i know exactly how fast her competition was going into the race.Although they won some races ,they were not that fast. In her 2 races this year,Hatches in my opinion was asked to much for the competition she ran against. Plus the fact in both races she had amazingly easy trips.Loose on a lone lead with no pressure. That being the case, when Joel shook her up.She should of drawn away from the field. For the ace handicappers out there.A mile race in a comeback is a hell of a lot tougher on a horse than a distance race. They are exerting more energy. In a distance, just like Hatches tried to do.They walk the dog around the track for 5 furlongs, then turn it into a race. Looking at the older female division.Other than the so called top 3,the division is lacking severely in quality. Like last year, the hope of 3 year olds developing will be the only thing that can salvage it. This and only this will give competetive racing at the end of the year. If not, they better endorse those big checks to the owners of Beholder and P.O.S. , because the only time the others will hae a shot to win. is when these 2 are on the sidelines and being spectators. · 779 days ago
it's going to be a tough year for these older fillies/mares. now we just need to see beholder return.
Very nice. Wired this field.
WHAT a race, slop and all. I'll have to post my pics tomorrow when I get home (:
It's official, she's in the Azeri. I have to say, though, I am very disappointed to not see Rose to Gold on the entries list. But still, there are some nice mares with some Oaklawn experience who might challenge.
