not sure if i'll ever see another horse race for awhile that gave me chills the way he did. sure i LOVE Game On Dude, but AK was special. when he was good he was probably one of the best horses in the world.

  • Dressage3295 · I am eagerly waiting for his offspring to hit the track. I don't typically follow racing out of North America (besides a few big races), but AK's legacy will change that · 1024 days ago
  • rafirox · Animal Kingdom's ky Derby win was my very lasr memory of watchin horseracing wit my dad. We knew he would not make it to the 2012 KY Derby, so I think it was not a coincidence the big guy upstairs had the pieces in place for his favorite jockey, Johnny V, to hop on his KY Derby horse, Animal Kkingdom. He nailed him at 20-/1 and it was probably the last time I ever saw him smile and yell "JOHHNNNNNNNYYYYY VVVVV!!!!!!". For that, Animal Kingdom will forever be one of my favorite racehorses of all time. · 1024 days ago
which horse was better Animal Kingdom or Mine that Bird
special for johnbarbaro... Which horse is better Animal Kingdom or Fusaichi Pegasus
  • Dressage3295 · Animal Kingdom · 1145 days ago
  • johnbarbaro · These are two of my favorites. Neither one of them were healthy for any significant stretches in their career. Fu-Peg's pre derby resume was better. His Derby was way faster , both got beat in the Preakness. but AK won the Dubai World Cup and Fu-Peg never raced past 3 and didn't show up in the BCC in his finale but AK didn't show up in his finale either. Toss up but if they were going 10F on the dirt in their prime I would go with Fu-Peg · 1145 days ago
This is a complete hypothetical but what if Animal Kingdom and Zenyatta mated. I think it would make a great race horse. Feel free to comment

i still get sad sometimes when i think about this horse. i think if he would have been put in different races he would have had even more success. he was best on synthetics at a CLASSIC distance.

  • Northport · Why would two year olds be brought into the question if classic distances are the topic of discussion? · 1236 days ago
  • Sullivan · You challenged more distance being harder on horses by using horses in their prime. those jorses can take anything. Two year olds cannot that is why we are using them. They are rffected by distance. · 1236 days ago
per DRF, a few mares have been confirmed in foal to Animal Kingdom.
"He's the smartest first season stallion I have seen in the barn," said Arrowfield operations manager Sam Fairgray said of the son of Leroidesanimaux, "an absolute natural and a pleasure to work with."
This was one of the best horses in the last few years. I wish his owners had managed his campaign better and entered him in more races to his running style. All these Mile races were too short for him!

  • kaitlinefree1 · you are completely right. the Derby distance was his best obviously, a Classic distance. i also believe he is one of the best horses we've seen in awhile. · 1327 days ago
  • tmallios1 · That was one of my beefs, not only withAnimal Kingdom. But with Many horses.I have always maintained, people do not root against horses. They root against the connections.A prime example is Big Brown.People were not fans of Dutrow and the brash owners.Regarding K,He is owned by Team Valor, after winning the derby and making that huge splash. It seems as though, after his unfortunate incident,he almost became a walking billboard for Team Valor who is a public Stable. In their haste to promote their buisiness, the interest of the horse takes a back seat and they always point to the extremely high profile races. The ones where the Sun shines brightly.A similar horse this year was Palice Malice.Owned by Dogwood(public stable). They did everything in their power to get him into the most high profile 3 yo race in the world(The Kentucky Derby).Running him in the La. Derby and Bluegrass within a basic 2 week span. Then after he qualified, they ran him in the Derby off a 3 week layoff in the most grueling of races for 3 year olds.He showed he was over the top, when he ran an uncontrllable race setting blistering fractions.Thankfully Todd pulled back the reins and gave him some much needed freshening. The reast as they say is history. · 1327 days ago
I believe that Animal Kingdom was a flop because of Velazquez but he was pretty unruly. I agree with kaitlinefree the commentator probably meant in recent history

  • icyhotboo · My question was to see if any other horse had done any better than Animal Kingdom in a short period of time. I don't know where I got that seven months from, but a year or fourteen months would have been more appropriate. Considering prior to this question, I did make allowance for the European shippers coming here and not performing, I was OK to do the same for AK. The question except for the time period was genuine. It was something I jotted off quickly as I have strong personal feelings for AK. In spite of setbacks that would have put other horses on the shelf permanently he came back and performed amazingly, three times out of four. I still feel something was wrong with him at Ascot, but that the nature of horse racing. Thanks for the replies. · 1347 days ago
  • goblin · Thank you for the explanation, icy. I was sincerely confused as to the time frame being attached to the question on a thread about AK. He did not look to be himself at Ascot. · 1347 days ago

On one of the Queen Anne Stakes uploads on YouTube there's a female commentator that remarks that Animal Kingdom is the best American horse to ever race in the UK. That's the most absurd comment I think I've ever heard!! America's 1935 Triple Crown winner, Omaha, was sent to Ascot as a 4yo in 1936(sent over on a ship I might add) having never raced beyond 12f in his career and having raced only 1 time prior on turf in the Arlington Handicap at 8-1/2f. Omaha contested the 2-1/2 mile Ascot Gold Cup. He was beaten by a nose by the Epsom Oaks winning filly Quashed. There's two things I know, in this country Triple Crown winners are heald in higher regard tha Kentucky Derby winners, and Omaha certainly fared a hell of a lot better at Royal-Ascot in 1936 than Animal Kingdom fared in 2013 and that's just a cold, hard fact!!
I miss the anticipation of waiting for him to race again
I think they should have gave him one more chance to end with a win
  • yukichan · Only chance of this happening is if he proves sterile... · 1363 days ago
  • Dressage3295 · It would be nice to see him redeem himself, but extremely unlikely it will happen · 1363 days ago
AK is now in quarantine just outside of Sidney, Australia. He arrived Sunday in for the September start of southern hemisphere breeding season. He has a solid book of mares including 11 G1 winners. Among them: Miss Finland, by Redoute's Choice, a 5x G1 winner among her overall 11 wins for earnings of $4,635,000; and Alinghi, a Newmarket and Blue Diamond winner, she also sports 11 races wins and $3,470,325 in earnings and is a daughter of Encosta De Lago. Another is Weekend Beauty, a great race mare who has won more than $3 million. AK's introductory fee of $38,500 has been popular with top breeders, reports say. He stands at Arrowfield's Scone base.

But of course he book is full of quality mares including 12 who are G1 winners or dams of G1 winners. And he will be at Jonabell Farm in 2014 to service US mares :) http://www.arrowfield.com.au/articles/animal-kingdom-to-parade-at-arrowfield-open-house.html
