  • Dressage3295 · How is he not a distance horse? All his wins have been over a mile (excluding his maiden). His best race, IMO, was at 10f. I say give him a shot at the turf. If he takes to it, great! If he doesn't, then I think they should focus in on more NY races, where he seems to be comfortable at. Out of his 11 starts in NY, he's been out of the money 3 times. It also seems that he never places well when there's early speed. In his Woodward win, the half mile was a good second slower than when he placed 6th in the Whitney. In fact the Woodward was his only win since his 2 yr old year when the 1/4 mile was run faster than 24 seconds · 838 days ago
  • Floridaf · Alpha is definitely a distance horse and he has some very long-winded siblings. Distance is not going to be an issue. First time starter on grass...that's where the big question lies. · 838 days ago
some interesting saddle cloths for sale on ebay - Alpha's Whitney cloth, Sahara Sky's Met Mile cloth, Tattenham's Secretariat Stakes cloth, & Curlin's Breeder's Cup Classic saddle cloth.

  • Mary Z. · That thing don't mind running 10f. It would have had , you do the math, like $25,000 more dollars and a grade 2 win added to its record. Excuse the grammar. I'm eating. · 864 days ago
  • Mary Z. · Maybe that was if he skipped the BC and ran only in the Hawthorne race. The dollars difference. I had it figured out once. Really thought he'd run in the Hawthorne Gold Cup after he had won that other slow 10f. · 864 days ago

my pick in the cigar mile
One ofthe kids I work with, has to do an alphabet project for school, he asked me for advise on a good unique topic that not many others would pick, jokingly I said he should do it on race horses. To my suprise he jumped all over the topic . I know it's something he could easily look up on the internet, but who are some of you favorite horses by letter - just to give him some ideas. {I figured Alpha would be a pretty fitting start}
I think this trip solidifys the fact, that he just doesn't travel well. I hope they will finally do what is best for the horse and keep him in NY.

  • icyhotboo · Alpha isn't a fast horse, put in in grade 2 or lower grade 1s and he'll be fine. horses don't have to run at a grade 1 level to be considered very good. · 940 days ago

Woodward winner Alpha has been confirmed for the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile rather than the Classic.
  • tmallios1 · Personally,if i were cutting him back in Distance, i would of preffered the Sprint.At least in that race he could close off of fast fractions.In the Mile ,he is in middle of the road territory. He is not fast enough to track the pace.Definately not good enough to close and win. · 957 days ago
  • kaitlinefree1 · i think he fits nicely here. the Dirt Mile is shaping up to be a great race. · 957 days ago
