What the Horse Racing Nation is saying about Zoffany...

Do you remember the Washington Generals? Sure you do; they were the basketball team that took it on the chin from the Harlem Globetrotters too many times to count. Their amazing losing streak helped highlight the spectacular play of the winners. Why do I bring up the Generals in a horse racing colum...Read More

  • ILuvTurfRacing · @BrianZipse, I thought Excelebration's win today in the QE II Stakes was one of, if not the most impressive performance on the Champions Day card. Can't wait to see Excelebration and Wise Dan go at each other in the BC Mile. But I warn those who think Wise Dan will win the BC Mile easily that Excelebration's of much higher class and ability than the horses Wise Dan's been beating in America. It's fair to say Excelebration beat Cityscape today at Ascot just as impressively as Wise Dan beat him at Woodbine, IMO. · 545 days ago ·

  • Cigar16 · The debacle that occured on Thursday from the fallout of CD's decision to not open the turf course for training has become a situation that I now find to be just as humorous (somebody please take Michael Stoute's deplorable trackside rant and make a comical YouTube video of it!) as it is shameful! Shameful for both entities. Despite CD's effort to make trainers aware by broadcasting on several occasions via the PA system the possibility of grass course training closure due to a threat of precipitation, a mess still ensued. WHY, did CD close the course a nanosecond before the scheduled opening? HELLO? I get that it was for legit reasons, but making that decision without facilitating your freaking public/horsemen relations department etc in preemptive coordination with the Euro's was appalling. This is not a normal event. Sorry, but CD definitely dropped that ball! But on the flip side is who the hell does John Gosden, and the most obnoxious, self entitled jackass Michael Stoute think they are in that they feel they can remedy their inconvenience by doing as they please in disregarding the closure, attempting to DISMANTLE the railing, and helping themselves to the course as if they were at home and having a backyard BBQ??? OMG! I was embarrassed for them! We can only hope that this will be at the very least a learning experience for the future.. All of that being said, and being one of the last people to look the other way as protocol is not adhered to, I do not speak lightly when I say that in the grand scheme of things, 10, 20, or a 100 years from now as an American racing fan I DO NOT WANT the unpleasant stigma that would have been ours FOREVER had the stewards DQ'ed Goldikova to LAST, therefore forever tarnishing her image. I am so glad the stewards proved diplomatic, thought of the consequences, and made the RIGHT DECISION! · 894 days ago ·

  • likin sparks · Hey, what better way to entice more foreign horses to complete in the BC races, no harm nor foul for bumping. Also CD should have had all the PR and grounds crew out after the rain subsided drying the track off with hair dryers it wasn't good enough! · 894 days ago ·

Days before the Shadwell Turf Mile, trainer Tom Bush said Sullimar Stables’ Get Stormy would “have to run extremely well  to go to the Breeders’ Cup.”   In a runner-up effort to Gio Ponti, Get Stormy ran extremely well.   “It is disappointing to run that great and lose,” Bush said by ...Read More

  • medlocke · I'd very much like to see Gio Ponti notch a win under his belt this season. But I believe he's going to have beat another Aidan O'Brien trained horse from Ireland to do it? Zoffany, who is a stablemate to Cape Blanco, who's beaten Gio Ponti twice this season is coming over from Ireland for the G1 Shadwell Turf Mile. Very talented 3yr.old son of Dansili who was a G1 winner in Ireland as 2yr.old in 2010. He's finished 2nd in two European G1 races this season. He was beaten by 3/4 of length by Frankel at Ascot in the G1 St James's Palace Stakes, and he was beaten by a head in France in the G1 Prix Jean-Prat by another very talented 3yr.old Juddmonte colt, Mutual Trust. Zoffany has the distinction of being the horse that came closer than any other this season to beating Frankel. When Frankel was starting paddle at the end of the St James's Palace Stakes, and Zoffany flew home late to finish to within 3/4 of a length of Frankel. Which was a monster run, IMO. I believe Gio Ponti and Zoffany will be the 2 class horses in the Shadwell Turf Mile. But unlike against Cape Blanco, I feel like Gio Ponti has the ability to beat Zoffany in this race. THE brilliant Frankel stretched his unbeaten run to seven by landing the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot on Tuesday. Sent off at 30-100, Frankel stormed clear turning for home, but began to fade as the Aidan O'Brien-trained Zoffany got going for Ryan Moore. Read More
  • medlocke · Given the severity of the mistake made by Tom Queally with that very premature move in the St James's Palace, Frankel is very lucky that it was just inferior 3yr.old's that he was facing today, IMO. He was definitely paddling at race's end, and Zoffany was closing on him like a shot. Henry Cecil's been talking about taking Frankel to Goodwood next to take on Canford Cliffs in this year's G1 Sussex Stakes. But what I saw out of Canford Cliffs and Goldikova in the Queen Anne today, if Frankel had been facing top level, older milers like Canford Cliffs or Goldikova in this race? He definitely would've been swept aside, and dealt his first career loss today. JMO. · 1039 days ago ·

  • Rossington · Right after Frankel crossed the wire just 3/4 of a length ahead of Zoffany in the St Jame's Palace, the camera man spanned his camera into the stand's, and pointed it at Sir Henry Cecil. A picture really is worth a thousand word's. Because Cecil had a real look of disgust on his face for jockey Tom Queally not carrying out his instruction's, and very nearly allowing his star colt to get at the wire by Zoffany. Cecil did not look happy, one bit. I'd imagine he'll be telling Tom Queally that from now on, he ride's Frankel Henry's way, or no way at all!! · 1039 days ago ·

  • ruffian75 · I remember when Giant's Causeway came to the 2000 BC Classic, first time to run on dirt. Ran a champion race in a close losing effort to Tiznow. A friend of mine mentioned prior to the race that he was going with GC & Tiznow, stating that although it was GC's first effort on dirt, he was on the extreme outside, and he wouldn't have any dirt kicked in his face. Maybe Frankel can draw the outside, and not be fazed. · 1040 days ago ·

  • medlocke · For the people who don't care about the politics of Europe vs. America in the Breeders Cup races. And go to the event for the joy of watching the best horses in the world race. And also bet to make money off of those horses, whether they're from Europe or America? These comments are directed toward you. The Coolmore-Ballydoyle colt Zoffany, trained by Aidan O'Brien, is without question among the very best of the best of the European 2yr.old's. 5 wins in 6 lifetime starts. Zoffany's only loss was in the G2 Coventry Stakes at Ascot. To another top level 2yr.old, Strong Suit. But Zoffany was very badly hampered in the Coventry. Squeezed out between Strong Suit and Galtymore Lad. Ending up finishing 6th in the Coventry. But since the Coventry Stakes. Zoffany has won the Golden Fleece Stakes. A listed race. The G3 Tyros Stakes. Won by Rip Van Winkle in 2009. And most recently, made up for the Coventry flop by defeating Strong Suit with a powerful run in the G1 Phoenix Stakes. Zoffany is a very big and physical 2yr.old. He looks like he's been chiseled from stone. O'Brien will likely send this colt to America for the Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf. If he does send Zoffany? As a handicapper who keeps up with European racing as closely as American racing. I strongly recommend a bet on this Ballydoyle 2yr.old. I just haven't seen any American turf 2yr.old's that are in Zoffany's league. He's already a G1 winner as a 2yr.old. · 1317 days ago ·
