What the Horse Racing Nation is talking about...

Just down the road from the Four Seasons Beverly Wilshire Hotel, site of tonight’s Eclipse Awards dinner, is beautiful downtown Burbank and the world-famous studio where the “Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson” was produced for many wonderful years after Carson and his entourage moved West from New...Read More
Should character and rules violations come into play when votes are cast for honors such as horse racing’s Eclipse Awards or Hall of Fame? My belief is that they should. That question came to mind yesterday when Daily Racing Form first reported on the lawsuit filed by a bank ...Read More
  • cigar · Hmmm... when votes get sent in for horses like Tale of Ekati, it's hard to take any Eclipse Award seriously. · 90 days ago
Could this be the one for Todd? Champion trainer Todd Pletcher has yet to win a Kentucky Derby in his illustrious career, but Super Saver looks capable of ending that drought after his impressive victory at Churchill Downs on Saturday.Read More
Though not nearly as contentious or as fascinating as the battle for Horse of the Year, the race for the sprint title is another that has voters divided and which features a leading contender who emerged thanks to some late-season heroics. After Kodiak Kowboy won the Cigar Mile Saturday at Aqueduct,...Read More

It's a shame this classy sprinter is retiring so soon. He was tons the best over the California sprinters, but couldn't handle a full field of top class sprinters on BC day. It's hard to say how good he really was. Plus, what does he stand for as a stud in this downturn economy?
Retired. Amazing.
ZENYATTA (Street Cry [Ire]) climaxed one of the most brilliant careers in racing history with a thrilling victory in Saturday's Breeders' Cup Classic (G1), becoming the first female to win the coveted race and extending her unbeaten streak to 14. The effort to overcome her m...Read More
  • Rossington · John Shirreffs must really be on cloud nine after the weekend he just had in the Breeders Cup. Zenyatta's run really needs no explanation, it speak's for itself. Life is Sweet, however, ran like a filly with a world of talent and look's like a filly that may even have better races ahead of her should she decide to stay in training for next year. Garrett Gomez really rode a masterful race on Life is Sweet. I kind of felt going into the Ladies Classic when she was sent off with morning line odds of 8-1 that she may be the one in the race that was being overlooked. Much like I felt Gio Ponti was in the Classic. Great job by Shirreffs and congrats to the connection's of Life is Sweet and Zenyatta. Great performances from both fillies. · 128 days ago
Ken Kinakin said he's not a risk taker by nature. It's an assessment he might want to reconsider after putting up a $180,000 supplemental fee just to get his Dancing in Silks into the $2 million Breeders' Cup Sprint. That investment turned into a $1,080,000 payday on Saturday at Santa Anita when the...Read More
  • mshutty · Not being talked about much but certainly one of the top races of the day. Both Zensational and Fatal Bullet ran off the board which was one of the biggest beats of the day. · 129 days ago

  • Medlocke · Great analogy, but that's why they run the race. Zentational will no doubt be tested harder than he has been in his last four win's, but he's a quality horse that know's how to win. That's why he has four straight win's. They'll all come at him hard, but Zensational will win the B.C. Sprint. · 136 days ago
  • mshutty · A bad start, rail draw and pressured pace did Zensational in. Fatal Bullet was just playing too much catch up and didn't have the conditioning. Fleeting Spirit ran a dud. Dancing In Silks ran the race of his life. Hats off to Carla Gaines for a well planned campaign, a new top in the prior prep race and taking advantage of the home court. · 129 days ago
Although she was back in her barn at Hollywood Park after her historic Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I) win, Zenyatta was the hot topic the morning of Nov. 8 among those gathered at Clocker's Corner at Santa Anita, one day after they witnessed history.Read More
The post position draw for Saturday's $2 million Breeders' Cup Sprint at Santa Anita added a little further intrigue to the race after Zensational, the track's 7-5 morning-line favorite, drew the rail. A year ago trainer Bob Baffert won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile and Sprint. On Sunday his horses swept Santa Anita's first four races after going 2 for 2 Saturday. Sure looks as if Baffert has figured out this synthetic-track business. More evidence: Of his four-horse contingent for the Breeders' Cup ...Read More

Bob Baffert has been quoted as saying Zensational is one of the most talented horses he has ever trained in his Hall of Fame career. The 3-year-old son of Unbridled's Song will get a chance to prove it Nov. 7 in the $2-million Sentient Jet Breeders' Cup Sprint (gr. I) at Santa Anita.Read More
  • Rossington · Not that there's even really such a thing, of all of the Breeders Cup races, this race is as close to a "sure bet" as you're going to get. My meaning by that being that in each race there's going to be a favorite. I think there's little doubt that Zensational will be the favorite for the Sprint. And of all the favorites for each race, I feel that he's the one that's most likely to win his race. As of late, Zensational has just looked unbeatable at 6 furlongs. It will really surprise me if Zensational loses this race. I'm not saying that he can't, he's definitely got plenty of competition, but I don't think he will. But given what his odd's are likely to be come race time, don't go looking to get rich off of this race. · 139 days ago
  • mshutty · One thing is for sure, when that gate opens, there will be no stopping him. He will run as fast as he can for as long as he can. Fatal Bullet will be breathing down his neck pushing him faster than he has ever run before. Keep in mind, Baffert wants a cool day thinking a hot day changes the Pro-Ride surface to be unfavorable to his charge. Don't count the filly Fleeting Spirit out. Tons of class, beating on a huge fields of boys. Dancing In Silks is capabale of the upset as well sitting just off the Zensational/Fatal Bullet duel. · 139 days ago
Careless Jewel (pictured) and Zensational both uncorked bullets over the Pro-Ride surface on Oct. 27th, as they continue preparations for the upcoming Breeders' Cup World Championships at Santa Anita Park on Nov. 6-7. Read More
  • Rossington · With the exception of Rachael Alexandra, there's not a doubt in my mind that Carless Jewel is the next best 3yr.old filly in America. Given how impressive she's looked in her last 3 or 4 outings, I'm not so sure she wouldn't take it right to Rachael Alexandra as well. She's shown more talent, maybe with the exception of Summer Bird of late than any of the other males and all of the females that R.A. has raced. Hopefully, since R.A. is dodging, oops, I meant skipping the Breeders Cup races we'll get to see these two lock horns sometime next year as 4yr.olds. I anxiously await. · 141 days ago
Zensational may be out of sight, but he's certainly not out of the minds of the connections of any other horse with designs on this year's Breeders' Cup Sprint. Zensational, who is expected to be the odds-on favorite to win the Sprint, has not started since capturing Del Mar's Grade 1 Pat O'Brien on...Read More

  • mshutty · I agree with your assessment completely. With apologies to Quality Road fans, I have always viewed Quality Road as an imposter much like Chocolate Candy and Pioneerof the Nile...quality horses but not top tier. Zensational will be the most difficult favorite to beat in the Sprint. Look for more analysis on our www.bcdashboard.com in the coming days. · 144 days ago
  • cigar · Well... I think Zensational is a bet against to be honest. He'll (hopefully) face some real pace pressure when entries are drawn, something he's never seen before, and is a totally different ballgame than freewheeling on the lead. · 144 days ago
