I ❤ Wildcat Red!
Awesome!
Wins with the greatest of ease!
On June 22nd, he worked 5F in 1:02.56 over a harrowed but muddy track. Last 1/4 in 24.05

  • rafirox · Worked VERY WELL according to my source (singular, lol). According to C: He was really tired heading into the KY Derby (evidenced by works prior). ~7 weeks of no racing has done great benefits. Looked refreshed, moved nicely and easily, closed up nice with a strong gallop out. Looking sharp heading into the Quality Road Stakes. Kudos to connections for good managing ... like the 8.5f at home in preperation for the Haskell, where I think he can run well over 9f on hard track. This guy will relish 7 to 9 furlongs (9 is his max). I expect a BIG effort next out in the QR Stakes. · 704 days ago
  • rafirox · Looked good today, and based on this tune up and his workout(s), he looks back in form. Glad the (too long) Derby did not take too much out of him. NICE colt, a big fan. He was too good for the field heading in, too good heading out. Should finish out the year strong if managed properly. · 697 days ago
Should romp in the Quality Road Stakes.

  • SSilence86 · "It’s not too serious, but it’s deep. It’s something we have to pay attention to. But he’s walking good. In general, he’s doing good," Garoffalo said. "He got hit pretty hard." · 700 days ago
GO RED!!!!!
per Bloodhorse is being pointed towards the Haskell. I like this. I think 10 furlongs is too long, might be able to carry his speed 9.

  • racinlover109 · what makes you so sure he cant go 10 furlongs? · 709 days ago
Great horse!
on June 14, Wildcat Red worked 3F at Gulfstream Park on Good Dirt in :36.80 b finishing 4/24.
Garoffalo said he was looking for a race mid June as a prep for the Haskell?Anyone know about that???
I SO want him to win the Haskell!GO RED!I LOVE YOU!
My favorite racehorse!Go,Red!
Will get a few week off from training to heal per trainer Garoffalo. He exited the Derby with a 1 inch cut near his right front cannon bone, and bruises on both rear legs. Once back in training he will target races at 1 1/16th to 1 1/8th.

  • Sullivan · " One reason 10f is easier on the lawn than on the turf is because there are allowances and sometimes even claiming events going 10f or longer over turf. On dirt, any races longer than 10f are almost always stakes." He tried to disprove me using a stakes race at For Erie. Now perhaps John regularly watches Hastings and Turf Paradise, but I doubt it. John, Wildcat Red's dosage: 5 - 2 - 3 - 0 - 0. This means he inherited speed from his sires, which is where speed ought to come from. Do not not overlook, however, his dams points (reines): 10 - 4 - 3 - 8 - 7. Yes, he is very biased to speed, but he also has significant numbers as far as distance goes. It comes out to about 14 Speed and 15 stamina in the end, which makes 10 furlongs right up his alley, assuming the inheritance from his sires and dams was strong. I don't know his family paticullarly well conformationally, but it would be interesting to see which horse they took after the most. · 750 days ago

Sustained deep cut to the outside of right front leg. Will van back to Gulfstream on Tue to recover. Per DRF Derby

  • buckpasser · Too bad. Very game horse. Definitely explains his result. · 752 days ago
  • Sullivan · The horse was working lethargically all week and took the longest of any horse out of the Florida Derby. Had no shot, regardless of a deep cut. Didn't seem to affect his stride too much · 752 days ago
How can you leave this one out?

  • rafirox · This guy fit the energy profile, technically ... but, adjusting from GP parameters to CD parameters (plus the extra furlong) is a very difficult task. And, not to mention, Mr. Velazquez gave the email chain updates ... him nor his Gulfstream counterpart (General A Rod) were impressing in the morning. I put Wildcat Red in my trifecta underneath, but I don't think he was ever a true contender to win this race. JMO. · 753 days ago
  • tmallios · What energy pattern. He won because going into the race on paper he was 3 to 5 lengths faster than any horse in the race. He was that back in January and still held serve. This is the horse everyone tried to take his credit away with the non sense excuses of bias speed tracks. · 753 days ago
Wishing Red and his connections a wonderful Derby Day!And hopefully a Derby win!
All I hear about this horse is he'll win the derby because he has heart. Please explain to me how his heart will let him win when he didn't have the heart to hold off a horse down the short GP stretch after a perfect, slow trip
Was it not posted earlier on HRN that Bejarano was announced the replacement jockey on Wildcat Red? Was this a figment of my imagination?
Slow workout or no-he will win the Derby!

Had a very disappointing workout today. 5F in 1:04.39 with no gallop out- Per DRF Welsch
