  • humphrey · Furosemide is a joke and always has been. Go to most tracks today and over 90% of the horses are on it, even untried two year olds.....There is nothing done to check the electrolytes on these animals and the fluid loss can be substantial. Our season is only a month old and we have had three babies collapse on the track...all on furosemide with NO evidence of EIPH. Multiple buckets of water and ice lavages were necessary to revive them, thankfully. If you do some pharmacological interaction investigation, you will discover that in the presence of furosemide, BUTE'S action is substantially decreased: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/7486400 http://www.omafra.gov.on.ca/english/livestock/horses/facts/info_pheny.htm So the fashionable use of a drug with spurious efficacy is not only dumb it is ineffective...This is not to mention the effects of flushing other clandestine medications out of the body. · 1096 days ago ·
