What the Nation is saying about Warrior's Reward...

Here Comes Ben continued his upward ascent in class with a late-running victory on Saturday at Saratoga Race Course in the 31st running of the Grade 1, $250,000 Forego.   Freshened after concluding his sophomore season with a fifth-place finish in a minor stakes at Turfway Park in December, Her...Read More

Charitable Man and Warrior’s Reward, both candidates for next Saturday’s Grade 1 Forego, turned in workouts over the Saratoga main track yesterday.   Trained by Tony Dutrow, Charitable Man breezed four furlongs in 49.09, ranked 22nd among 48 horses who worked out at the distance.   “We’ve ...Read More

  • cugel the clever · WRITING YOUR OPINION IN CAPITAL LETTERS DOES NOT MAKE IT A FACT. Naming the "Best Horse" always has been, and always will be, an OPINION, not a FACT. In my opinion, beating the best males in the world three times (instead of once), setting multiple track and stakes records (instead of none) and beating horses at 8 different tracks is a more worthy record than 16 in a row against Grade III competition. · 85 days ago

Calvin Borel puts Warrior's Reward - a one-run closing sprinter/miler - right near the pace and tries to move with 3/8's to go. What? Talk about taking a horse out of his game. Ooops!

If there’s an American graded stakes race that is more interesting year in and year out than the Met Mile then I’m unsure I’ve located such an affair.  Each year you get a terrific mixture of sprinters attempting to negotiate that important 8th furlong and routers cutting back to achieve glory ...Read More
In his first two starts as a 4-year-old, Quality Road quickly established himself as a powerhouse in the older male division, cruising to an easy win in the Grade 3 Hal’s Hope at Gulfstream Park and coming back to crush the competition by nearly 13 lengths in the Grade 1 Donn Handicap.Read More

The curious case of Quality Road continues Monday at Belmont Park in the Grade 1 Metropolitan Mile. This race won’t be nearly as easy for him as the Donn Handicap. Grade 1 winner Warrior’s Reward promises to bring PLENTY of competition as does Illinois Derby winner Musket Man...Read More

  • medlocke · Informed Decision looked to me like a mare that had a little bit of lay-off rust in losing her first start of 2010 at Keenland in the Vinery Madison Stakes. Informed Decision had been undefeated over synthetic surfaces until her recent 3rd place finish. But she's one of those rare one's that can perform equally well over a conventional dirt surface as well. She won the 09' Human Distaff in the slop at Churchill Downs, if you'll remember. A lot of horses are slow starters after a lay-off. Gio Ponti springs to mind, losing his first start of 2010 at Tampa Bay Downs to Karelian. But came back in his second start to run an amazing Dubai World Cup, finishing 4th, but having to go extremely wide to get that. So it was a very quality run for him. I expect Informed Decision to bounce back with a win on Derby day. IMO. · 129 days ago
If Blind Luck is looking to win an Eclipse Award for outstanding 3 year old filly, she is doing a fine job of making a very strong case. • Arrrgy · I almost won that race in 78. I went back to Fl for a job and George Handy hired me. When he showed me Lulubo, I asked why she was so sour..huh? The next morning, most of her oats was in the water bucket. I'm thinking, this is a super bred filly with all the looks and I have to see this? I watched her gallop 1 7 1/2 mile. Loose reigned the last half so Tammy could rest to pull her up. I was disgusted at what I was seeing. Almost quit over it when George said I was flying out to FG and on to Oaklawn. I thought, YES! I get to straighten her out and see what she can do. I started mixing some water in her oats and the next morning, not one oat to be found. I told the ex boy, she's dead or over fit from running off every day. Bow her neck and take it easy. She went perfect, bucked & squealed coming off the track! When she started in the Fair Grounds Oaks, she went to the lead like any good Native Charger filly would. She was in front by 2 at the head of the stretch when her exuberance made her stumble. She came back on to just miss s econd. Brousard complainedthat he couldn't rate her. Off to Hot Springs to win the Fantasy. I've got this filly right as rain now. Okie galloped her slow. Everything went right until the break. She was the 6 and the 5 came out on her while the 7 came in and dropped her to her face & knees. When she got up, she was 30 out of it. 21 by the first call. She ended up 5th beaten 4 lengths! I dare say, she may be one of the best fillies in the country. Back to GP where Tammy whined, I can't gallop her any more. lol Jorge took over. Now they fly me to Kee for some 7F race? She went to the front in 44 & change and quit. She's a router. Hello! Back to GP and off to MTH where she wone the 2 3 year old filly races paying $18 and $17. She sold to Bertram Firestone for $250k. That sucked. Hope you enjoyed that one too. · 153 days ago

If Tony Mitola wants to go to the Kentucky Derby, he's going to have get a ticket. His dream of starting a horse in the Run for the Roses ended Saturday when Schoolyard Dreams, a horse he co-owns with Eric Fein, finished fourth in the $750,000 Wood Memorial at Aqueduct Race Track...Read More
CARTER QUOTES   Ian Wilkes, winning trainer of Warrior’s Reward (No. 2): “After he couldn’t get the distance in the Travers, we decided, let’s make him a one-turn horse, seven-eighths or a mile.  Let’s make him a really good horse.  He wants to be a good horse. When Julien pulled him ...Read More
  • rossington · I'm just really glad to see a deserving colt like Musket Man back racing and competing successfully again. He was one of my favorites in 2009 during the run up to the 09 Kentucky Derby, because I felt he had a lot of talent, and was being looked over in favor of some of the other, more "marque" named colt's at the time, like Friesan Fire, Pioneer of the Nile, Dunkirk, and others. I think because he took the Tampa Bay Derby and Illinois Derby route coming into Churchill was why many overlooked him. But to see him come back in February after such a long lay-off to win the Super Stakes, and then run a superb place effort to Warrior's Reward, just missing by a whisker today, gives me a whole lot of hope for Musket Man's future during his 4yr.old campaign. I can't wait to see how he'll fair against Quality Road in the Met Mile, seeing how the two never got a chance to meet during the 09 Kentucky Derby or Preakness. · 155 days ago

Spring’s arrival with a vengeance this week here in the Allegheny Mountains has begun to thaw my malaise towards horse racing, and life in general, to be honest.
