  • racingrooter · I'm with winplaceshow. I think Ghostzapper is the best horse of the 20th century thus far. There are some other great horses mentioned here, but GZ would have left them all eating his dirt. · 122 days ago ·

Farwell to thee … A.P. Jet (21) Japanese stakes winner was a solid sire in the States. Anjiz (22) Stakes winner in England in U.S. passed away in Argentina. I saw him win the Phoenix Stakes at Keeneland. Black Tie Affair (25) The Horse of the Year of 1991 got better every year for Ernie Poulos. I sa...Read More

  • MarcelloMarocco · Dance Smartly was the one that bothered me the most. Beautiful mare, and Great racer, but she had to be euthanized after a paddock accident. Then there is Izvestia , another Canadian TC winner who was euthanized at 4 after a catastrophic injury during a race. Finally this year the passing of the best Sire since Northern dancer....Sadler's Wells. · 124 days ago ·

Every single year there is an owner or a trainer that just can’t help but trash talk the competition and this year it is Robert LaPenta. In an interview this morning LaPenta made it quite clear how bitter he is over the lack of respect Dialed In has received compared to the heaps that, apparently, U...Read More

  • annmatt · I agree with Robert! The tom-toms through the Derby Prep season were constantly beating for the "star", Uncle Mo. While Dialed In was quietly going about winning two very important races, and he sat perched near the top, yet nary a word was made about him, not at all. I don't blame LaPenta for being a little ticked....I was ticked and I don't have any ownership concerns. Also, Repole (who I like a lot, BTW), came out and said that Mo will be the "Favorite" in the Derby because he will bring enough money to the track to make it happen! If that isn't throwing down the gauntlet, I don't know what is!!! · 391 days ago ·

  • tiznow · I agree he shouldn't be trashing a horse. No need for that. I big part of me will be pulling for Dialed In as, like many, I loved his maiden and kept watch ever since. I also spent time with him yesterday and he looks phenomenal. Seemed very relaxed with all the backside commotion. I am concerned that with The Factor out, the pace won't be as hot as it would have been to help him out. it will be hot because it's the Derby, but not as blazing now. · 391 days ago ·

It is now 2011 and that means we have officially embarked on the Kentucky Derby trail. Here in the East it’s been difficult to see even the slightest hint of rose blossoms buried beneath 20-30 inches of snow drifts. But, heck, they’ve already run the first Derby prep (the Count Fleet Stakes at Aqued...Read More

WAR PASS (Cherokee Run), the champion juvenile colt of 2007, died Christmas Eve at William S. Farish's Lane's End Farm near Versailles, Kentucky. The five-year-old stallion had just arrived the evening before in good order from standing his second Southern Hemisphere season at Widden Stud in Austral...Read More

You are gone way too young. Rest in Peace champ.
  • cugel the clever · It's always a shame when a good thoroughbred passes away, but War Pass in no way established any credentials to be any more than a good horse. He was one of many monster 2 year olds, as common as grains of sand on the beach, who fade into obscurity after their 2 year old campaigns. I was at Tampa Bay Downs when he threw in a clunker and finished last at 1-9. I made one of the biggest profits of my 30-year racegoing career by betting against him that day. This is one of the few areas in which I agree with Hump-Free. People get way too excited about 2 year olds. Most of them change so much between 2 and 3, that they're not even the same horse at 3. War Pass is a textbook example of this. Uncle Mo may be the next. · 516 days ago ·
