What the Horse Racing Nation is saying about Union Rags...

A strong contingent of horses headed by Union Rags will attempt to spoil I’ll Have Another’s Triple Crown bid when the 3-year-olds assemble at Belmont Park on June 9 for the 1 ½-mile “Test of the Champion.”Read More

This horse reminds me of Dialed In from last year. Has a lot of hype and attention directed towards him, and seems like an impressive colt. Both had the fastest final quarters in the derby, but neither had the ability to close fast enough. I don't seem him closing in the Belmont when he is tried and doesn't have enough energy for a final kick.
One thing that is for sure, is that if I’ll Have Another does not get the respect he deserves going into the 2012 Belmont, should he win, taking the Triple Crown, he should go down as one of the most respected Triple Crown winners in the history of the series.Read More

  • brooklyn.steve · Just hope it's not the boo fest it was for Big Brown. Because Dutrow was the trainer, many were pleased when he came in last. O'Neill is a notch above Dutrow, although with all the breakdowns of his horses and all the Milkshake accusations, there will be at least a few rooting against him. As for the horse, only Dullahan should stand in his way, unless Mark Valeski can go that far. · 14 hours ago ·

I do hope that we have a triple crown winner and expect that we will. He has the speed and the stimula to do it. This has been in the making for a very long time and I am looking so forwarded in seeing history being made again. Good Luch I'll Have Another in you races and becoming the new Triple Crown Winner. · 13 hours ago ·

  • AfterHours · Even when his runs midpack, he still let's traffic get to him and he tries to look for the quickest route out of it and runs. I'm not saying he isn't a great horse, he just won't win the Belmont and that's all there is to it. Whether IHA wins it or not, UR will not take the win. And to see a horse panic is not what you want in a mile and a half, you need a horse AND a jock who can stay calm and level headed, that and a combo of speed and stamina are what make up TC winners. Yeah, they need to have fight and heart, but a panicy horse is going to waste good energy, energy that should have been used for the 5f homestretch. · 13 hours ago ·

  • AfterHours · IHA's only real competition, IMO, will be Dullahan. If Gemologist weren't out on an injury I would say he would be serious competition as well, and in that case I wouldn't know who to route for but luckily that's not the case! But as far as UR goes, he isn't even in my top 3 ITM horses. IHA, Dullahan and Paynter will be the horses I'm watching. But no matter who wins, it will be an amazing race and IHA will remain one of the best horses I've seen (personally). · 23 hours ago ·

I’ll Have Another will try to become the first Triple Crown winner since Affirmed in 1978 when he runs in the Belmont Stakes on Saturday, June 9. Michael Matz entered a horse in the Preakness Wednesday. It just wasn't the horse he had been thinking for months he would be running in Saturday's race at Pimlico. If you had just dropped by Matz' barn at the Fair Hill Training Center Wednesday morning with no context, it all looked so routine. Set...Read More

  • saratoga john · Having watched the race several times since Derby Day, Guiterrez made two key moves with I'll Have Another. Both occurred at the top of the stretch. One, was at the start, and the other move at the turn for home. The first was getting him out of that 2nd gate to a wide-open space through the stretch so he could relax the horse through the clubhouse turn. The second, was pretty remarkable since this was Guiterrez' first time in a race of this magnitude. It was the key move as they spun off the turn at the 1/4 pole. Drifting out in the middle of the track with Went the Day Well & Dullahan to his outside, the key move was sliding him back inside to make his run at Bodemeister. The closers were still commited the the 7 & 8 paths and stayed out there to launch, but it was too late. Guiterrez was already gone and taking a bead on the game Bodemeister. Bodemeisters' ability to burn those fractions and still be running at the end was quite impressive. That's why I'm taking Bodemeister in the shorter Preakness. · 4 days ago ·

Put J. Castellano back on him please Michael!!!
Had a troubled start but closed well from where he was still one of the best 3YO horses we have to offer! He will be one to reckon with in the Belmont.
I have lost all respect for the trainer. Union Rags would be back if he won or finished in the money at Church Hill. This is a convenient excuse. All the others are facing the same challenge, 2 weeks rest. Another way for Michael Matz to avoid facing the best on even terms. If Rags won 2 of the 3 he would atone himself but he will not even be given the chance. All the talk about what is best for the horse, is he sound? If so, by God let him run. Many great horses lost the Derby but won the Preakness and Belmont. Matz’s decision making is questionable, all the way to selecting the jockey for the horse. Union Rags is the best 3 YO around and and team Matz have ruined his quest. Oh, I know your going to say the Belmont, Travers, and BC Classic will do it. Let me be clairvoyant, it will not. He can’t even win the Preakness much less the races I cited. You cannot win if you do not play.

  • buds · The fact is maybe U.R. isnt that great. He is just a very good 2 yr old and an above average 3 yr old. If he runs in the belmont he will find himself outside the money looking in, he just isnt that great! · 7 days ago ·

  • icyhotboo · If UR runs in the Belmont the margin of his victory will be 6-12 lengths. Mark this down. I don't care is they strap a monkey to his back with this wide sweeping turns and his high cruising speed, no problem. Exception can be IHA turns out to be a lot than we've seen so far, he does have a lot of upside. Triple wouldn't surprise me. He is very mature for this early in the year for a 3yo. Just like the Edsel with the push button drive. · 7 days ago ·

  • AnnaK · So explain this for me, why you think the 12f won't work for him. A big colt, long stride that when he gets it all going has good speed, has always come running at the end, including the Derby. Is it pedigree, something else you see about him? · 10 days ago ·
    like
  • cocoa2 · Yes, I see that his strong closing run get weaker and weaker as the furlongs are piled on. 12f is too far for him, and usually longer distances favor a stalker or front runner as they can open up a big lead and not be caught, especially with only half the field if that even supposed to be running 12f. Dixie Union does not throw 12f colts. · 9 days ago ·
