He is one of my favorite horses ever but I don't think he'll be a good sire at all.

Champion Uncle Mo's first foal, a filly, arrived Jan. 4:
Perhaps a little premature, but I looked up the hypothetical mating of Uncle Mo and Groupie Doll on TrueNicks... A++

  • cocoa2 · There is no way that the foal would run in classic distances, but with a mare like Groupie Doll, instead of wasting precious seasons to classic horses, we might as well breed to fast milers and sprinters. I'm looking at their conformation now. · 1563 days ago
  • cocoa2 · TrueNicks likes Quality Road x Groupie Doll too · 1563 days ago

They should not have retired him. A long layoff sure, but retirement. Uncle Mo deserves better than Mike Repole and Todd Pletcher. He deserves to prove his brilliance next year.

  • MichaelPavelick · shadowno, I agree Beyer is unsurpassed. His figures are amazing. His 2011 Derby picks: 1. Shackleford 2. Archarcharch 3. Nehro · 1986 days ago
  • footlick · My point was that being given enough time and rest in between races and being prepared correctly for a particular race is much less stressful than rushing a horse to get to a race. The illness can be combatted by not stressing the horse out. If he had been conservative, he may have raced the horse next year and had the proper time and methodology to give Uncle Mo the foundation for a 10 furlong race. Mr Repole wanted to push the horse to make the Classic and now Uncle Mo is retired because his enzymes weere elevated due to the stress. Maybe Uncle Mo was going to be retired anyway after this year so they took the shot since it was to be his only shot. Nobody really knows except the connections. Enthusiasm is great, but knowing what spots are best for your horse and giving your horse his best shot is also great. I don't feel Uncle Mo was given the opportunity to give the Classic his best shot, that is all. I think he would have been formidable in the Dirt Mile or even the Sprint. JMHO · 1986 days ago
check facts on the illness he has..its a chronic illness that is escelated with stress. Racing is extremely stressful on a horses body.. they should have retired this horse in may. he will never be 100% again

  • GoTexas · Mary Z...WELL SAID! I love Mo and have from his first race, but totally support Mike and whoever in their decision to stop Mo's racing career when it was evident that this liver problem was not going away. Too sad! · 1987 days ago
  • shores · Well, said, Mary! Anyway, if the disease is not hereditary, then the people who send their mares to him will have nothing to worry about in terms of prducing a foal without colangiohepatitis. What they REALLY should pay attention to when sending their mares to Mo is his racing record- the fact that he was an awesome miler and sprinter and a very precocious horse. If breeders want a horse like that, they should consider Mo. · 1987 days ago
I think they should give him at least one more year of racing. they should at least let him retire after a good race. I know I'm gonna miss this guy tearing up the track!
  • arceusrulz16 · They only retired him because of his health and they didn't want him seriously hurt again. · 1992 days ago
  • MichaelPavelick · I wouldn't doubt 3-5 months of rest, and a smarter plan for his schedule that Uncle Mo could race for 2012. Lets pressure ego man Repole to race him in 2012. · 1991 days ago
Poor Uncle Mo. He deserves a nice retirement after all he's gone through this year. Does anyone think that this is why he lost the BC or was it the distance.

Retired, but still a great horse.

  • shadowno · Pretty average, like most 2yo champions of the past decade, comprable to Midshipman, Declans Moon and Stevie Wonderboy. Inferior in every way to Street Sense, Looking at Lucky and Johannasberg. · 1995 days ago

I think Uncle Mo was a decent horse but not a good talented class horse like everyone thought he was but im not taking anthing away from his good races
  • icyhotboo · That doesn't say much for Caleb's Posse who was destroyed by Mo. Got to choose, one way or the other. lol · 1995 days ago
  • aj.mindiola · When was Caleb's Posse destroyed by Uncle Mo??? get your facts right Caleb's Posse defeated Uncle Mo in the King Bishop · 1995 days ago
He's a good horse. I think that the Classic didn't do him well.

  • icyhotboo · If you don't try you can win anything. Last Quality Road a great miler entered the classic and wound up the same as Mo. The only way to win is to not be afraid to lose. · 1996 days ago
