2011 Sunland Derby winner Twice the Appeal (Successful Appeal) has been retired to stud and will join Sway Away at Premier Equine Center in Ca.
Twice The Appeal is just about set for his long awaited comeback at Santa Anita !!!
What is the relationship between Twice The Appeal and Broad Appeal?
  • shores · Other than Valid Appeal being Twice The Appeal's paternal grandsire (through his sire Successful Appeal) and Valid Appeal also being Broad Appeal's maternal grandsire (through her mother, Valid Allure), I don't know. I can't think of anything alse besides them both having the influence of Valid Appeal in their pedigrees. · 1420 days ago
Anyone remember this guy from the Kentucky Derby? He's been off the radar since May and was just spotted at Santa Anita 10/21 working 3f in 36.40.
  • victor1835 · Gave him some much needed R & R and he is now gearing up for his 4 yr old campaign, should be really good and excited to have him back on track. · 1442 days ago
  • mdracing69 · Twice The Appeal worked again at Santa Anita on 10-28. 3f in :36.60. · 1439 days ago
Would've at least put Santiago-Reyes on for some consisteny. He won with the horse last out, and has been on him the most.

  • timgsmith10 · over Calvin 3 out of 4 BoRAIL? No sense · 1620 days ago
  • arazi · Never fun for winning jocks to lose mounts, but Calvin has owned the Derby. That can't be a bad decision. · 1620 days ago
I Might be nieve but I think Calvin sees a field of 20 better then any other Jockey. This horse id not such an outside shot with this Derby Field.
as one can see from his record, this horse has done very well on dirt, and only so-so on synthetic. he should do just fine on the first sat in may under mr. borel.
So is anyone jumping on the Twice the Appeal bandwagon now tht Borel is on? Does it matter that the track is sloppy or good or fast? I don't know if I want this "low Beyer last out" one in my trifecta or super or not!

  • logrezzio · Borel has never done anything in the Derby except on a sloppy track. Pray for the slop and as usual Borel is on another horse that is not really a Derby contender. Why do you think he never has a Derby mount until the last minute? Looks like the weather will be crap again but this allowance horse is questionable as usual. · 1623 days ago
  • brianalanvh · When he won on Street Sense and it wasn't a sloppy track. · 1623 days ago
Cut and paste opinion form Bookmaker.com sez "Even more troubling than the weak Beyer Speed Figure, from a horse betting handicapping perspective, is that the Sunland Derby field was staggering to the finish. There have been six 1 1/8-mile Triple Crown Prep races so far, and this is the “final fraction” for each: Fountain of Youth - (:37.80) Louisiana Derby - (:37.90) El Camino Real Derby - (:38.10) Robert B. Lewis - (:38.71) Vinery Racing Spiral - (:39.75) Sunland Derby - (:40.02) Any horse that needs :40 seconds to complete the final three furlongs of a nine

  • dubby30 · How fast was the Florida Derby final 3/8th??????????????????????????????????????? · 1637 days ago
Wow, Nehro is surging in the ranks. Wonder why that is since it is unlikely he is going to getted vanned across the country like a poor relation.
I think it's sickening that trainers with so many bad tests (Hollendorfer, Bonde) are lauded and/or considered for Hall of Fame status. People who idolize them should check the public record for bad tests, bad behavior, and horse break-downs.
1:50.91 for a 1 1/8 mile race. Too slow. Toss him for May 7th! He'll come in 7th or 8th that day. Or maybe 15th.
  • jinlie01 · I concur...too slow and the race definitely seems like a toss but then again..remember Mine That Bird? · 1653 days ago
  • bigbrown2332 · I don't like him for the derby either, but I wouldnt forget about him. · 1653 days ago
Upsets the Sunland Derby at 25-1. Favored Astrology ran second.
