What the Nation is saying about Turf Melody...

Prince Will I Am picked up the first stakes victory of his career Saturday afternoon at Belmont Park, edging clear after a dramatic last-to-first run in the Grade 1, $250,000 Jamaica Handicap.   Trailing as Citrus Kid led the field of 11 through mild opening fractions of 24.93 and 50.40, Princ...Read More
Dean's Kitten, owned by Ken and Sarah Ramsey, has been installed as the lukewarm 7-2 morning line favorite in the $150,000 Hawthorne Derby (gr. IIIT). Eight 3-year-olds were entered in the 1 1/8-mile turf event. Dean’s Kitten is one of three in the Hawthorne Derby that chased Paddy O'Prado in their ...Read More
Trainer Kiaran McLaughlin looks to have a strong hand in Saturday’s 61st running of the Grade 1, $250,000 Jamaica Handicap at Belmont Park as he sends out a pair of Grade 3 winners to head a wide-open field of 11 sophomore colts and geldings going 1 1/8 miles on the turf.   Krypton seeks his f...Read More
Taking advantage of fast early fractions, Lethal Combination came on strong through the final yards to outkick Turf Melody and take Sunday’s Grade 3, $100,000 Saranac at Saratoga Race Course by a half-length.   Under Alan Garcia, Lethal Combination dawdled at the back of the pack as Devon Rock ...Read More
With just a few days left until the close of the 142nd meet at Saratoga Race Course, trainer Todd Pletcher is well on his way to his seventh training title, having along the way collected victories in the Grade 1 King’s Bishop, the Grade 1 Betfair TVG Coaching Club American Oaks, and the Grade 2 Am...Read More

Fly Down’s last-to-first victory in the Grade 2, $200,000 Dwyer on a blustery Saturday afternoon at Belmont Park may have earned the colt a shot at the Belmont Stakes.   The 3-year-old son of Mineshaft barreled into the lead rounding the far turn and pulled clear to a six-length win over 3-5 f...Read More

When the horses enter the gate for the 142nd running of the Grade 1, $1 million Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park on June 5, the WinStar Farm connections of Super Saver are hoping its Kentucky Derby winner will be vying to become racing’s 12th Triple Crown winner.   In the meantime, one of WinSta...Read More
With the 136th running of the Kentucky Derby behind us and the eyes of the horse racing industry now focused on the Preakness in less than two weeks, the most important questions that need to be answered have as much to do with the mud as they do with a horse. Is Super Saver a great 3-year-old, capa...Read More

  • davidcrone · He has a shot, for sure. He ran very good in the Derby, considering most of the horses as close as he was completely collapsed. He got a good trip, but a big part of that was having the speed to stay in it early. He will be a deserving Preakness favorite, but he isn't a near-lock like some past Derby winners have been. · 1116 days ago ·

After Noble’s Promise finished fifth in the Kentucky Derby, trainer Kenny McPeek considered taking his colt to England for Royal Ascot’s Group I St. James’ Palace Stakes for a mile on grass on June 15. • Arrrgy · Nowhere in the world is a young horse asked to run on such a lousy racing surface when it's wet. It can't be compared to anything i know of and is cruel to the horses. The only horseman I saw all day was Calvin Borel. · 1118 days ago ·

Updated 2010 Kentucky Derby Graded Stakes earnings as of March 31, 2010. Key contenders Eskendereya, Caracortado, Schoolyard Dreams, Drosselmeyer, Jackson Bend and Pleasant Prince will all likely require more graded stakes earnings to get in. Read More
  • bband · It seems like more horses will get shut out this year than in recent memory. What will be interesting is if Pletcher starts all 7 horses, fully knowing the lesser ones can't compete with his top runners. But what it will do is keep several real contenders out of the race. · 1150 days ago ·

  • Rossington · As well as he's raced over every conventional dirt track that he's ever ran, I still find it hard to believe that Rick Dutrow isn't going to take a shot at the 2010 Kentucky Derby with D' Funnybone. I really think it's a distance question with Dutrow. But that wouldn't deter me from taking a shot with this colt, because none of the incoming contenders will be proven yet at 1-1/4. • Rossington · Boy, that Florida Stallion Series sure must not have paid very well for Jackson Bend to be so far down the list in Graded earnings. I also thought D' Funnybone with win's in the Saratoga Special, the Futurity Stakes, the Hutcheson Stakes, and the Swale Stakes, plus a place effort in the Frank Gomez Stakes would have acquired more money in Graded earnings than his total suggest. · 1146 days ago ·
