Trinniberg Back in U.S. for Churchill Downs Stakes
Sherry Parbhoo’s Trinniberg, winner of the Breeders’ Cup Sprint (GI) last fall at Santa Anita, tops a stellar field of nine sprinters for the 79th running of $400,000-added Churchill Downs (GII) at seven furlongs on the main track.

Would be surprised if this wasn’t Todd’s target for Hierro since he got him. The favorites softening each other up on the front end wouldn’t hurt, either. The question is how much does Johnny All-Star hurt the price?>> Would box Delaunay with a slice, too.

Verrazano Gets the Victory in the Wood Memorial
The Wood Memorial was billed as the battle of “V” versus “V”, Verrazano against Vyjack, and that is exactly how it played out. Verrazano got the “V” for Victory in the battle down the stretch against Vyjack and a late-running Normandy Invasion.

Not sure what to make of Verrazano's performance today. He did what he had to but, for the first to me, seems like he may have a hard time getting 10f.

Since the Tampa Bay Derby, I knew this guy was special. He has a talent only one in thousands of horses have. However, he will doubtfully be my Derby horse. He proved he can rate and he proved he can be challenged. He also proved he can travel and handle many surfaces. However, I don't think he'll win the Derby. He is a colt who is lightly raced and lack of foundation (four races)... I don't, nor never, liked his feet. I'm afraid maybe a four three year old races might be too much too soon for a colt who is so young. He doesn't have a great 10 furlong pedigree and neither does his performance. Normandy would have caught him with more ground... Verrazano will face him and many other quality late speed colts in the Derby. He passed every test we've thrown at him, but I think the last test (huge crowd, 20 horses, weird surface, 10 furlongs) might be a tough task for this very talented colt. JMO.

Don't think so. He was used pretty extensively early and consequently didn't have much punch left for the stretch run -- a disappointing effort. Apparently, the American horses are stabled in an area where they have to walk an hour to get to the paddock. That kind of walk will take its toll on any horse, let alone having to come back to run on a "foreign" surface for the first time -- his chances were probably compromised. Lastly, he did run against a pretty salty group here -- can't expect a lot more if you don't run your best race.

You really think that walking an easy mile or two is somehow going to tire and animal that EVOLVED to run for his life? Are you serious? I watch standardbred score 3 and 4 miles a night BEFORE they work out another mile and then they RUN a mile......That comment was not created with much thought in mind.

Dr. Fager being a middle distance horse because he excelled at a mile to 1 1/8 even more than he did sprinting. Secretariat, Kelso, Man O' War - they could all sprint, Ruffian too, but since they were successes when a few more panels were added on we don't call them sprinters.

Groupie Doll's conformation doesn't really fit Trinniberg, Groupie Doll being your classic small, bulldog sprinter and Trinninberg being a little taller and leaner. I prefer Groupie Doll to breed with Uncle Mo, as does TrueNicks. After, a trip to Quality Road wouldn't hurt either

From recent post: Trinniberg arrived at Gulfstream Park on Wednesday after a two-month layoff spent at Crupi's New Castle Farm in Ocala. The 4-year-old is expected to resume training Monday, Jan. 21. Trainer Shivananda Parbhoo has yet to set a date for Trinniberg’s next race. “Right now we’re focused on getting him back into training and making sure he’s healthy,” he said.
