What the Horse Racing Nation is saying about Tourist...

Gets it done in the fourth race in Hallandale Beach in a very commanding style! Went quite wide and pressed the pace before out dueling with blinkers the other horse, separated from the rest of the field and did a mile in 1:34 flat with the next sixteenth done in 6 2/5 seconds. Billy took Cigar off the turn 10 years ago, today he put Tourist on it
Going into this race, there was only one question to be answered. How good was Monopolist? The question was basically answered before they sprung the gates open. When he opened a very cold 7/2 on the Tote Board,we had an inkling that today was not his day. Then when he kept going up and up in the odds.It almost became Academic.I for one ,will give him 1 more chance to redeem himself. If he comes back quickly, you can chalk it up to a bad race.If Todd takes his time, one knows something went amiss. At that point the race became open.Endowment Mngr. looked and looks like a sprinter. He used the golden rail on JCGC day ,to make his race look better than it was. Tourist had the look of a turfer, with his high leg kick. After yesterday, the only dirt this guy should ever see again, is if he is at the beach and a bully kicks it in his face.He is and has always been turf meant.Leaving the race,in all respect to the top 3 finishers. The question regarding 2 year olds should be.How good is Manhattan Johnny? He destroyed his field when he broke his maiden.Out of that race came Wicked Strong, who ffinished well behind him.Yesterday he won.I think there are either 1 or 2 other horses who ran in that rce. That have subsequently run back and won. S o Johnny is the horse that was flattered and should start getting some publicity.Monopolist, he was just to bad to be true, the he deserves another shot.Other than Samurai, the rest had their bubbles burst .

  • sosotricksy · He is not a winner though wither, as most people predicted due to his breeding, and buzz. I do not know the reasoning behind it , but thus far he has not lived up to the potential most felt he should have had. Healthy or not, he just never looked like a horse that wanted to run. Maybe that is because of issues I don't know. I will hold out hope for Monopolist, at least for a few more runs. · 256 days ago ·

  • Sullivan · Well, both lost... might as well look at the winner. What do we think? I like the name, "Wicked Strong", it's Beantown all the way · 255 days ago ·

  • rafirox · Tourist returns on October 26th- going a mile at Belmont- and his morning line odds are realistic at 4-1. Before looking at other possible contenders, first let's look at Tourist. Tourist's worktab doesn't transpire any major evidence like it did previously, but, yet again, there is evidence Bill Mott is high on this colt. Check out his last work. Going 5f, he went in 1:00:2 HANDILY. This is rare of Bill Mott to have such a hard-pushed work. He also had a :48 maintenance on October 13th. Tourist gets the switch from big-money rider Mike Smith to Joel Rosario. I'm not sure what to make of this move, so I'll analyze that later. Tourist did get some respect from railbirds and odds maker- being 4-1- while he was sent off at 10-1 last out (12-1 morning line). Now, we look at the myriad of contenders behind my win pick- Tourist- in order of their post positions. One longshot, who I bet in his debut- is Bourbon Courage (breaking from post one, odds of 10-1). Bourbon Courage was beaten by 6 lengths, coming in 5th, last out. Bourbon Sense's trainer, Chad Brown, success increases dramatically in the tranisition of 1st career start to 2nd career start. Chad Brown wins races similar to this on a very solid 23% rate. Bourbon Sense's last work was impressive, especially from a trainer like Chad Brown, which he went a quick :47. From Street Sense and the brother of a stakes winner, he is a 190k purchase, and Chad Brown stretches him out here to 8f. Next one I like is named “Goodnewsisnonews”, trained by Todd Pletcher at 8-1. Mainly, I just like him because of his connections, his pedigree and his name. He doesn’t strike me as a huge contender, but I can’t leave him off any ticket. Next, #9 Endowment Manager. He is experienced, statistically difficult, and has two placings. He is too hard to deny. Lastly, #11 Monopolist, trained by Todd Pletcher and ridden by Johnny Velazquez. Monopolist has been hyped- due to a stellar pedigree and tremendous workouts- and is surprisingly only 5-1 on the morning line. Monopolist is sound (working every week routinely), gets Johnny Velazquez on board, was a 375k purchase, and is trained by Todd Pletcher. Some of my friends in New York say he “has a smooth flowing stride, Todd Pletcher entered due to the phenomenal workout he had last out”, which was a relatively slow 5f over the training track. This guy is a must play considering his odds weighed to chances. My overall feelings of this race are simple: I like Tourist (4-1) more than anyone else, but others are contenders and have talent. This talented maiden field will be no cakewalk for Tourist. My order would go as followed: 1st- Tourist, 2nd- Monopolist 3rd-Endowment Manager 4th Bourbon Sense. I would not leave out Goodnewsisnonews, and I certainly won’t. In regards to my wagering, I’ll have to wait for the odds. Monopolist is a possible dutch bet, w/ Tourist, if he goes off at 7-2 or better. Tourist is a must bet, for me, and will be used. I’ll probably bet a few keys, exactas and trifectas- hoping to hit each pool more than once. The money won’t be an issue- because I made $2,000 on a Pick 4 just a couple days ago- so I won’t hesitate to bet big. Good luck to anyone wagering; I highly suggest everyone look out for some of these maidens. This is a good looking field. I think the fact Bill Mott is entering Tourist in these tough races speaks volumes. · 258 days ago ·
