What the Horse Racing Nation is saying about Tiz Chrome...

I might be flat wrong about Tiz Chrome, a stone bet-against Saturday in the Grade 2 Robert B. Lewis. It seems strange to bet against a horse with as many positive attributes as Tiz Chrome. Tiz Chrome is fast, unbeaten and bred long. He won an allowance-caliber sprint last time with a 97 Beyer, he is...Read More
Tiz Chrome,  a 3-year-old Bob Baffert-trained colt, broke down during a workout at Churchill Downs April 18 and had to be euthanized. Exercise rider Dana Barnes was aboard the son of Tiznow. She was not injured in the mishap.According to John Asher of Churchill Downs, Tiz Chrome was working wit...Read More

Because no one else will tell you, not a single Wood Memorial alumnus has finished in the money in the Kentucky Derby since Funny Cide and Empire Maker in 2003. That's six years of blanks, 13 off-the-board finishes and an average placing of 10th. So before one more gas-blower tells you about how bad...Read More

  • cstphns20 · Four Triple Crown winners came from winning the Wood Memorial and that does not include Secretariat who finished third in the Wood. So what's the point? On May 1st the horse who runs the best race will win the Kentucky Derby. That's the way it has always been!! Just pick a horse you like, stay on his band wagon, bet on him to win and if he doesn't, try it again next year! · 1125 days ago ·

Also working for the Kentucky Oaks on Saturday was Fair Grounds Oaks runner-up Champagne d’Oro, who breezed six furlongs in 1:14 under jockey Miguel Mena … New York shippers Awesome Act and Eightyfiveinafifty jogged over the Churchill Downs track on the morning after their Friday arrivals at the tra...Read More
  • invasor · So, we have to wait until the outcome of the Derby Trial this Saturday to see who's in and who's out. Looks like Pleasant Prince or Drosselmeyer would have to win to get in. · 1125 days ago ·

What a shame. An aspiring 3 year old Tiznow colt who was euthanized after breaking down during a Churchhill workout on April 18th. He had 3 starts and 2 wins (one on his maiden start). He was headed for bigger things this year. Maybe not the Derby but he definitely had the talent and under Baffert I think would have blossomed into a runner with a great talent.

Mike Machowsky has seen enough. After Caracortado worked five furlongs in 58.60 seconds, or six furlongs in 1:12 by Machowsky's watch, on Friday the trainer pronounced the undefeated 3-year-old ready for the $150,000 San Felipe Stakes at Santa Anita this Saturday."I'll just gallop him the rest of th...Read More
Saturday might be a good time to kick off a two-prep campaign for the Derby. Last year Mine That Bird made his first start of the year Feb. 28, while the year previous Big Brown kicked things off March 5. Street Sense opened his two-prep slate in 2007 on March 17. Average them together and what do y...Read More
One of the things I really like about Steve Munday's Derby Dozen (editors note: I'm a participant so this is totally biased) is the use of the Roman Numeral for his bi-weekly Volumes. Now typically only Olympiads and Super Bowls are allowed to use this status, but I think it's cool that we have some...Read More
The latest Wireplayers Dirty Dozen of Kentucky Derby contenders is out. The Kentucky Derby presented by Yum picture is far from clear but after this weekend we should at least have some additional visibility. This past Saturday at Santa Anita former claimer Caracortado stepped closer to the glass slipper with an late surging victory in the $150,000 Robert B. Lewis Stake...Read More
Back when magazines mattered, there used to be this thing called the “Sports Illustrated cover jinx.” I’m starting to worry that it might be replaced by the Ray Paulick “Paulick Derby Index jinx.” When we launched the 2010 edition of the Derby Index two weeks ago... Read More
It is appearing with each race that Rule  does not believe in doing unto others as he would have them do unto him. Note that in the Lewis the one two finishers both had run the 1 1/16 distance previously. For the connections of five classic hopefuls, it is better late than never. A week after torrential rains at Santa Anita Park forced a cancellation of the Robert B. Maybe it was the relatively modest California breeding or the obscure jockey that dimmed the perfect record going into Saturday’s Grade II, $150,000 Robert. B.
