  • travel_vic · I was a guest in the Hollywood Turf Club of a marvelous woman who`s husband used to be the track vet, Mrs. Lu Wright. I was in line waiting to bet and started a conversation witha very tall man ahead of me and never quite looked up at his face. We discussed a very fast one at 6 furlongs stretching out to 7 and I suggested that it would be too long for her. He wager $500 on her. I was a bit taken aback espcecially after a few people came up to him for an autograph. I had been speaking to Walter Matthau. Came the race and around the 8th pole her tail began to flap and she slowed down so much she was caught but held on for third.
