What the Nation is saying about The Program...

Updated 2010 Kentucky Derby Graded Stakes earnings as of March 31, 2010. Key contenders Eskendereya, Caracortado, Schoolyard Dreams, Drosselmeyer, Jackson Bend and Pleasant Prince will all likely require more graded stakes earnings to get in. Read More
  • bband · It seems like more horses will get shut out this year than in recent memory. What will be interesting is if Pletcher starts all 7 horses, fully knowing the lesser ones can't compete with his top runners. But what it will do is keep several real contenders out of the race. · 680 days ago ·

The results of the Wood Memorial, Santa Anita Derby and Illinois Derby shuffled the order of the Kentucky Derby graded earnings a bit. Read More
  • Rossington · As well as he's raced over every conventional dirt track that he's ever ran, I still find it hard to believe that Rick Dutrow isn't going to take a shot at the 2010 Kentucky Derby with D' Funnybone. I really think it's a distance question with Dutrow. But that wouldn't deter me from taking a shot with this colt, because none of the incoming contenders will be proven yet at 1-1/4. • Rossington · Boy, that Florida Stallion Series sure must not have paid very well for Jackson Bend to be so far down the list in Graded earnings. I also thought D' Funnybone with win's in the Saratoga Special, the Futurity Stakes, the Hutcheson Stakes, and the Swale Stakes, plus a place effort in the Frank Gomez Stakes would have acquired more money in Graded earnings than his total suggest. · 676 days ago ·

  • cigar · I think the only horse I want out of here is the winner. A Little Warm, while nice, rode a track favoring his style. Drossel has had too many chances and is now officially overrated. The rest? It would be a stretch. · 683 days ago ·

A field of 13 entered Saturday's $750,000 Louisiana Derby. Discreetly Mine is favored at 7-2 in post 7, but Drosselmeyer needs graded earnings and is stuck in post 13 at 5-1.Read More

  • mdracing69 · Much better post position news for Hotep fans. He was hung out to dry in Risen Star, and he gets cozy rail this time around. Rates a longshot look, especially in the exotics. · 689 days ago ·

In the past seven graded Triple Crown preps contested at Oaklawn, five have contained at least one starter based on the California synthetic tracks. When a 5-year-old mare named St Trinians heads postward in Saturday's running of the $750,000 Santa Anita Handicap (G1), she'll attempt to become the first female winner in the race's 73-year history. There are owners who go out and spend millions of dollars looking for a Kentucky Derby horse, and trainers who stockpile prospects in the hope that one of them gets there.
