Older Comments about The Grey Gatsby...

The step up in trip from a 1600 to 2100 meters is apparently just what the doctor ordered for the Grey Gatsby, landing the G1 Prix Du Jockey Club(French Derby) today at Chantilly over 2100 meters just slightly over 2 weeks after winning the G2 Dante Stakes at York over the same 2100 meter trip. Well done indeed to trainer Kevin Ryan and the connections of the Grey Gatsby for keeping the faith with this horse.

  • ILuvTurfRacing · Guess I should've also mentioned the G1 Champion Stakes at Ascot in October. Provided he stays healthy I'd say it's almost a given we'll see The Grey Gatsby in that field, IMO. · 355 days ago
  • jonquil · Kevin Ryan stated that The Grey Gatsby will be going on a long vacation and then he's thinking of aiming him at the Arc. I think it's way overambitious for TGG, but it's apparently what Kevin Ryan has in mind. I like The Grey Gatsby, but I don't really fancy him a G1 winner unless there's not much serious competition or there's something else to his benefit, more like G2 or G3. He'll need to improve on this a bit before I imagine him to keep winning at top level, especially with the direction Kevin Ryan is apparently taking him. · 355 days ago
The Grey Gatsby pulls the upset beating Arod in 2nd and short priced favorite True Story in 3rd to win the G2 Dante Stakes at York.

  • jonquil · Probably. That's always the most common excuse when a horse doesn't run the race expected of it. Just like the 2000 Guineas where at least 2 trainers claimed their horses ran on the wrong part of the track, heh. · 373 days ago
  • Euro Trash · Yes. Quite a few seemed to be in the wrong split according to their trainers · 373 days ago
