The Fugue up shortly in the Coral Eclipse! Gosden already 1-2 in the Lancashire Oaks!

Monster win for The Fugue, turning over Magician in 2nd and Treve in 3rd. I've seen Dettori ride Treve now in the Prix Vermeille, Prix Ganay, & Prince of Wales's Stakes, and I would argue that Thierry Jarnet seems to be much more in touch with the pulse of Treve than Dettori does. Jarnet has ridden Treve in the French Oaks & Arc De Triomphe and in both races he seemed to know just when to move on Treve and she blasted both of those fields. Even when Dettori won the Prix Vermeille on her it wasn't a stellar ride and she barely ran down Wild Coco that day at Longchamp, but this is just my opinion.

sweeps the Prince of Wales, outfooting a determined Treve and impressive Magician by 2 1/2 lengths. Dank nowhere
  • Show All 5 Comments
  • Euro Trash · @ILuvTurfRacing, I think the Dubai race was a bit disingenuous form wise and Dank was lucky to get third, but that may just be my perception. Some horses in that field failed to fire. Once the ground was confirmed, I knew at least The Fugue and Magician would show truer form. That being the case and thinking Treve was Dank's superior also, I did not expect her to get better than 4th. · 1013 days ago
  • Euro Trash · @Lazmannick, he did run well. Joseph said they had always felt he needed at least good going to show his best. Perhaps they are right · 1013 days ago
She broke the track record in her win in the Prince of Wales's Stakes!

finally got a good trip!!! i wasn't sure how well the uphill would suit Treve, obviously was right. The Fugue just looked fabulous!
She looked good! Treve just didn't have it today.
Trainer John Gosden said he and owner Andrew Lloyd Webber will wait until after the weekend to make a decision on whether The Fugue will run in the G1 Prince of Wales's Stakes again this year on June 18th, with Gosden saying he's waiting to see how her final two works tomorrow and on Saturday turn out. Gosden it will also be very ground dependent as to whether she'll run at Ascot or not, but sighted the G1 Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh in Ireland on June 29th as a backup option if she doesn't run at Ascot. The Fugue finished 3rd behind Al Kazeem & Mukhadram in last year's renewal of the Prince of Wales's Stakes.
as reported by TVG, The Fugue is confirmed for the DUTY FREE instead of the World Cup.

  • Northport · I had been hearing since last week that they were leaning towards the shallower competition in the Duty Free. I've always thought that she was more effective over 1m2f and upwards but I guess we will see! · 1102 days ago
  • kaitlinefree1 · why would they use the Dubai Duty Free, a $5,000,000 race, as a prep? i think they're going for less competition here only · 1102 days ago

Taking nothing away from Dominant who ran a monster race in the Hong Kong Vase, but if The Fugue's ever gotten a worse ride from William Buick than she got in this race I haven't seen. She was positioned perfectly early on, almost in the box seat. But why Buick allowed her to keep getting shuffled further and further back as the race progressed is a mystery to me? She should've never been in the position to have to check off the heals of Feuerblitz if she'd been ridden correctly by Buick throughout. Maybe it's fair to say Buick has ridden The Fugue well in her European races, but he hasn't ridden her well at all in two different Breeders Cup appearances and now the Hong Kong appearance being his worst ride ever on her, IMO.
  • Euro Trash · I would have to agree. · 1205 days ago
  • yukichan · Having watched the race now...one would have to agree...was expecting better riding from Buick, at his level and experience. · 1205 days ago
This from AtTheRaces.Com on Thursday, September 26th: Trainer John Gosden told the European racing media that since The Fugue won "win and your in" challenge races for both the BC F&M Turf and BC Turf, he will double enter her for both races coming up at Santa Anita in November, but Gosden went on to say that the 12f BC Turf against males is his first preference for The Fugue, also saying that owners Andrew Lloyd & Lady Webber also prefer to run in the 12f race against males. Gosden went on to say in the article that though The Fugue does still remain entered in the G1 Prix De l'Arc de Triomphe coming up next weekend, he doesn't expect they'll get the kind of ground she'll need at Longchamp and that the Breeders Cup would very likely be The Fugue's next race.
  • ILuvTurfRacing · The same connections and trainer brought over the very classy racemare Dar Re Mi in 2009 and also ran her in the BC Turf against the boys where she turned in a very creditable effort to finish 3rd behind Conduit & Presious Passion that day. · 1278 days ago
watch out for this one in the BC if she comes. shes had a great year so far. beating Al Kazeem last time out. the Arc is first it looks like though.

  • Euro Trash · Yes, she has seemingly progressed from last year to this. The Arc will be a tough race but she is in career form · 1286 days ago
The Fugue makes it back to back G1 wins holding off Al Kazeem & Trading Leather to win the G1 Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown. She now has "win and your in" victories for the BC F&M Turf and the BC Turf. Kingsbarns making his 2013 seasonal debut was pulled up fully 3f from home, so clearly went wrong there.

  • amino998 · The 2 “win and your in”s gives Gosden the luxury of cross-entering The Fugue in both races. He spent many years on the SoCal circuit and surely enjoys the trip. · 1295 days ago
noun 1. Music. a polyphonic composition based upon one, two, or more themes, which are enunciated byseveral voices or parts in turn, subjected to contrapuntal treatment, and gradually built up into a complex form having somewhat distinct divisions or stages of development and a marked climax at the end. >> High hopes of this filly coming back to avenge her BC loss.
Upset about the trip this girl got. I was so confident in her ability to win today. If only she had somewhere to run.

She won the Nassau Stakes, a BC win-and-your-in race, today in impressive fashion over Izzi Top. I wonder if Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber will send her?
