  • ILuvTurfRacing · This renewal of the BC F&M Turf really was a race where had 5 or 6 different fillies and mares in the field capable of winning this race if at their best. A beautiful ride by Javier Castellona on Zagora the whole way in the F&M Turf. I've followed this mare since her days when she was still racing in France and she was a very high class filly during that period, too. She ran terrific races in France against many of the best middle distance turf fillies and mares in Europe during her time there. Her recent 2nd in the G1 Flower Bowl Stakes put her spot on for this race, narrowly beaten by Nahrain that day. Roger Varian owes a big thank you to John Velazquez for suggesting he put a set of quarter cup blinkers on Nahrain for this race after Velazquez rode her to victory in the Flower Bowl at Belmont. I don't know what in the hell Roger Varian was thinking taking a jockey's advice on something like that after just winning a major G1 race? That last little stakes was the perfect tightner, and she'll just glide over that speed favoring oval. It'll be flag fall to that's all, sitting chilly behind Questing, L&P, My Miss, or whoever wants to take up the running. And if everybody takes back then Jeffery can pull a Track Robbery from the 80s like P Val used to do. It's the most anticipated race of the two days for me, just to see her do her thing. Unfortunately, I don't think we'll get 5 to 1, though perhaps they'll pound RD & the other contenders, assuming (wrongly) that she hasn't beaten anything. He's got his star older filly, Izzi Top, who until the G1 Nassau Stakes hadn't been beaten in 4 straight stakes races that has the automatic "win and your in" slot for her win in the G1 Pretty Polly Stakes in Ireland, and now he's got arguably one of the best 3yr.old fillies in Europe in The Fugue with an automatic "win and your in" slot for her victory in the G1 Nassau Stakes at Goodwood. Those 2 could make for quite a formidable F&M Turf pair for John Gosden should he choose to bring both stateside to Santa Anita in November, IMO. · 287 days ago ·
