Older Comments about Telescope...

Telescope absolutely bolts up to blow away the G2 Hardwicke Stakes field with ease!! Hugely impressive performance by him.

  • ILuvTurfRacing · @jonquil, Reminded me a little of the way Harbinger(for the same connections) bolted up to win the 2010 Hardwicke Stakes and he came back a few weeks later and won one of the most visually impressive renewals of the King George I've ever seen. · 1008 days ago
  • jonquil · @ILuvTurf: Definitely. I also thought of Harbinger when watching that as well. I'm even more excited about Telescope now. :) · 1008 days ago
Finally! Wow.
  • ILuvTurfRacing · You can bet we'll see Telescope back at Ascot again next month for the G1 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes. · 1008 days ago
  • jonquil · I really hope so. He's fit and he's finally got his perfect conditions and he's shown how good he can be. He needed those two runs earlier this year and I'd hope that he'll improve from here. · 1008 days ago
Telescope seemed appreciate the step up to 2400 meters today in winning the G2 Great Voltigeur Stakes at York. That said, give Foundry a couple of more starts under his belt to shake off the greenness and I think he'd reverse the form of this race if he and Telescope ever met again at 2400 meters.
Telescope beaten a length by the Mike De Kock trained David Livington in the G3 Rose of Lancaster Stakes at Haydock. Telescope actually just barely hung on to 2nd place, as he got a late charge from Noble Mission who finished a head behind Telescope in 3rd. In fairness, Telescope is a late bloomer due to injury and this was his first career start at group level, but if connections are actually still considering taking him to Longchamp for the Arc in October I dare say Telescope will be beaten by 20 lengths in this year.
The G3 Rose of Lancaster Stakes over 10-1/2f appears the next likely stop for this talented son of Galileo at Haydock on Saturday. Everything went sideways for Telescope on the Derby trial this season and unfortunately we didn't get to see him at Epsom. But given the cotempt he dismissmed his 2 rivals with at Leicester on July 18th in a 3-runner conditions stakes, won by a total of 44 lengths, a competitive listed or G3 races seems the next logical progression for him. Other notable possible's for the race are Juddmonte's Noble Mission, the Godolphin duo of Quick Wit and City Style, the former Coolmore owned David Livingston, and the horse I'm most excited about seeing Telescope possibly knock heads with, the highly progressive 3yo Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum owned Maputo. Maputo's career record to date is 7-5-1-0. He's won 5 of his last 6 races, and was last seen winning the listed Glasgow Stakes over 11f at Hamilton the day after Telescope won at Leicester.
Telescope finally made his long anticipated 2013 seasonal debut today in a 3-runner conditions stakes race at Leicester. He slammed Godolphin's Mulakim by an official margin of 24 lengths with another 20 lengths further back in 3rd to Centurius from the Marco Botti stable. He left those 2 for dead in a blink. It's too bad Sir Michael Stoute wasn't able to have Telescope right for the Derby this year. I would've loved to have seen this colt at Epsom.

  • Northport · I think he holds entries in the Coral Eclipse, St Leger, and Arc, but I think they are planning on taking it one step at a time · 1345 days ago
  • paul.nathan.946 · he will go for the great voltigeur next hes entered for the juddmonte but hes not good enough to win that. · 1345 days ago
I'm not sure exactly what's going on with this horse? But Sir Michael Stoute and Highclere Racing manager, Harry Herbert, told the Racing Post yesterday that Telescope "will not" run at Ascot in the G2 King Edward VII Stakes, nor will he run later in the month in the G1 Irish Derby. Herbert said they feel like they need to just regroup with Telescope for awhile and see where he's at later in the season, with Sir Michael Stoute pointing out it's a long season and there will be plenty of future targets for Telescope down the road. So who knows when we're libel to see this colt race again?

  • ILuvTurfRacing · @Northport, Me too. At this point I'd settle for seeing him even a listed or G3 race just to get some kind of sense what level above a maiden stakes winner he is. His situation reminds a little bit of Mars for Aidan O'Brien who went all last season with a lot of hype with only a Dundalk maiden win on his resume' until he was finally put into G1 company this year as a 3yo. · 1388 days ago
Trainer Sir Michael Stoute officially annouced this morning to the UK racing media that Highclere Thoroughbred Racing's top Epsom Derby hopeful, Telescope, has a sore left shin and "will not" be running in the G1 Epsom Derby on June 1st. Telescope missed his intended seasonal debut last week in the G2 Dante Stakes at York due to a graze on his leg that became infected.
