What the Horse Racing Nation is saying about Taptam...

Yankee Passion is likely headed to the Grade 3, $250,000 Southwest at Oaklawn Park following his flashy seasonal debut win at the track on Thursday. He won a six-furlong allowance in a rapid 1:10.88 in his first start since August, and for the effort he earned a career-high Beyer Speed Figure of 79....Read More
Taptam roared to the rescue, sparing trainer Bret Calhoun a forgettable Saturday night at Sam Houston Race Park. The 6-year-old mare broke quickly from the gate and led the entire 11/16-mile distance to win the $100,000 Star of Texas Stakes. Until that moment, seven Calhoun-trained horses had run. Ea...Read More
Sam Houston Race Park begins its 27-day season tonight, and Saturday the track will present its Texas Champions program. In breathtaking fashion Jerry and Ann Moss’s superstar Zenyatta dominated the $500,000 Apple Blossom (G1) Friday at Oaklawn Park and pushed her unbeaten record to immortal status and topped it off with a bow to a crowd of 44,973 adoring fans.  Under jockey Mike Smith, the 6-year-old Kentucky-br...Read More

Any questions about two-time champion older female Zenyatta’s prowess on a dirt surface were answered with a huge exclamation point on Friday at Oaklawn Park.Read More

  • rossington · Heaven help us, is it possible that she may skip across the conventional dirt even faster than she does across a synthetic track? If she does, there's going to be a lot of disappointment for other thoroughbred's this season, that race against Zenyatta. Granted, the competition that was supposed to be there wasn't, but if you'll pardon the pun, to "Be Fair", Zenyatta never broke out of any faster of a clip than an exercise canter for the whole race. She was under a hand ride the whole way, and found herself at the lead so fast, she almost looked confused as to what to do. IMO, if Rachel Alexandra had been at the Apple Blossom today, the fractions would certainly have been faster, but the outcome of the race wouldn't have changed one iota. If Mike Smith, who never ask for anything the whole race, would've had to ask for Rachel today, Rachel would've found more there than what she's capable of handling. IMO. · 779 days ago ·

Compared to what it was supposed to look like, the field for the April 9 Apple Blossom Invitational Handicap (gr. I) is a major disappointment. A field of only five, led by undefeated two-time champion Zenyatta, was drawn.Read More

If you can take the afternoon off Friday, consider it. If not, set your TIVO. Because Zenyatta is running again. It's not the $5 million "Race for the Ages" since principal owner Jess Jackson decided not to bring Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra, but the $500,000 purse in the 1-1/8 mile Apple Blos...Read More
