  • footlick · This horse has seemed to run about 5 races before they have to give him time off. He has shown talent and on occasion brilliance, but obviously has soundness issues. If I were his connections, this is the time I would retire him, after his biggest success. I would love to see healthy horses keep racing also, but this one has had physical issues his whole career. If they kept him in training and he doesn't win other major races, the impact of his BCDM is lost. · 197 days ago ·

  • travel_vic · Slow final time is the culmination of a fierce (usually at this level) pace battle. The RACE is early, and we call the survivors the winners. FINAL time does nothing to reflect that earlier battle. Given two horses in a sprint lets say, who both can get 1:10. give me the one that went 22.2 45 anyday over the 23.2 45.3 ANY day · 201 days ago ·

The trend of losing favorites in the Dirt Mile continued when Shackleford ran his race in the paddock and in the post parade.
