Retired! Just when he was hitting his groove and getting interesting again! www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/74342/tapizar-retired-headed-to-gainesway
He is a beast and totally ran the race of his life.

  • travel_vic · Slow final time is the culmination of a fierce (usually at this level) pace battle. The RACE is early, and we call the survivors the winners. FINAL time does nothing to reflect that earlier battle. Given two horses in a sprint lets say, who both can get 1:10. give me the one that went 22.2 45 anyday over the 23.2 45.3 ANY day · 1114 days ago
  • illhaveanothertriplecrown · Yeah, although I had a feeling he was going to win. Great price too. Loved it! · 1114 days ago
He's back and completely crushed the field!
On Feb. 13, handily breezed 4 furlongs in 50.80 (26/31) at Santa Anita Park.

Seriously Why cant he run an extra 6 seconds?
Tapizar, impressive front-running winner of Saturday’s San Fernando Stakes, came out of the race in good order and likely will start in the Grade II Strub Stakes at 1 1/8 miles on Feb. 4. “We’ll definitely consider that race,” trainer Steve Asmussen said
No contest in the San Fernando. Awesome run.
Ran a good race against top competition yet is rated much lower than other 3 year olds
I think Tapizar can win this race.. Also I like Caleb,Factor and Shackleford. Tri Box
Running Sat Oct 8 in the 1st at Belmont
Tapizar is injured and off the Kentucky Derby trail.
Tapizar works 4 furlongs in 49:00 at Santa Anita 2/7.
Last two races were good. IMO, still a bit of a boy, needs to learn to settle at that high cruising speed. The last 1/16 in 6.64 at 1 1/16 will be there at 1 1/4 if he doesn't learn to settle. Way too early to even thing about 12/1 on a future book bet. My guess is he skips the Bev Lewis in early Feb and waits for the San Felipe in March. Training will tell but who knows...
Maiden win at churchill was impressive..the sham was a cake walk...big and strong..he will devour the California fruitcups.
12-1 in the vegas books....good price

Nice looking colt. I'm still suspect of the Santa Anita surface. There have been some awfully fast times on the strip so far this meet. One has to like his breeding especially on the femaile side. I like the Deputy Minister and Call Now mating, that produced Winning Call. It'll be interesting to see how this horse does in his next race. Kantharos may have been Asmussens best horse since Curlin. Now that Kantharos has been retired, maybe this will be his top gun. Look out for Clubhouse Ride. He ran a game second, and may be better with a deeper track. Anyhow, Tapizar looks for real, confirming that California based horses are back on the map.
I saw him up close in his impressive maiden win at Churchill, and he looks like a different animal physically out at Santa Anita. His physical progression in such a short time is shocking. If learns to sit off those quick fast fractions he will be a Derby threat. He loves the track, has an abundance of talent, and his gallop out after the race was more impressive than what he did i the race (seriously just go back and watch it).
Tapizar received a 97 Beyer Speed Figure for his Sham Stakes win.
