Will Take Charge reminds me an awful lot of my boy Tank's Prospect. Willy is gonna lay it down on May 4th.
I am the only listed fan and the only one in HRN to list Tank's' Prospect as a favorite. I saw him win the 1985 Ark Derby and was overwhelmed. Do any of you California track folks have any back stretch stories about the Tank? Any idea what Tank's legacy should be? I do remember he had a blockage hampering his breathing that DWL equated to a human running a race while breathing threw a straw. Once they had that corrected his performances really improved.

  • jay s. · CFC. I never knew that Pat Day lost his stirrup. Imagine what his time may have been if not for that. Thanks for the update. If memory serves, Gary Stevens was on Big Tank when he won the Ark Derby and again in Kentucky. Seems like DWL wasn't that happy with his KD ride and replace him with Pat Day at Pimlico. · 1305 days ago
  • jay s. · I do know that Pat Day rode Clever Allemont in the Ark Derby against Tank, cause I vividly remember my bank account taking a hit. · 1305 days ago
To me, one of the most UNDERRATED horses of all time. He left his heart and soul on the track each time. I saw him win the Arkansas Derby and he was super impressive in person. I was actually moved to tears when I watched him win the Preakness on tv. I found myself jumping up and down in my living room as he was coming down the stretch. What a great soldier.
