What the Nation is saying about Take The Points...

Multiple Grade 1 winner Take the Points has been retired from racing with a leg injury, trainer Todd Pletcher said Sunday morning. The four-year-old Even the Score colt showed swelling in his right front leg on Saturday, and X-rays subsequently reveal a fractured splint bone. Stud plans are pending.Read More
  • medlocke · Sad news to read. At a time when America is very short on good turf horses. Take The Points was one of the better turf performers that America still had racing very competitively. Gio Ponti is still a decent colt on the turf. But obviously not as sound in 2010 as he was in 2009. I really hate to see any American turf horse that could have potentially competed effectively in this year's Breeders Cup Turf. A race that the Euro's generally always have a distinct advantage in. With Gio Ponti not really what you'd say racing at 100% this season. It may now fall to Paddy O' Prado. Provided he can get 12 furlongs. To be America's best shot at keeping the Breeders Cup Turf trophy in the United States instead of it leaving again for Europe. · 529 days ago ·

  • medlocke · I had seen the race replays of Chinchon's last 2 races in France. Where he won the Prix Exbury and ran 4th in the Grand Prix De Chantilly. In both races, he closed very strongly from the rear of the field. Knowing that the racetracks in France are usually slower, soft turf. I remembered thinking if this colt ever got a chance to race outside of France on firmer, faster turf that he'd be a handful. When I saw him on the United Nations card today, I played him immediately. Which made my day, because I'd been on a bit of a losing streak of late. LOL. I knew Momouth's turf is notoriously fast anyway. I played Chinchon a straight $20 to win, and it returned $96. Not a wheelbarrow load by any means. But just a good feeling to have handicapped one right again, and won some money instead of donating. At-a-boy Go Go Gomez!! · 580 days ago ·

  • arazi · This is a really good point. People forget, but Mandella is right. Very few horses come back from Dubai and are competitive in May and June. There have been plenty of flops over the years. I wouldn't toss Gio, but I would definitely spread in the Pick 4 around him. · 610 days ago ·

  • Rossington · I've never seen Vision D'Etat race over any surface except turf in his racing career, so I really don't know what to expect out of him over the Tapeta surface at Meydan. I will say this, that other than a poor finish in the 09' Prix d' le Arc', he's been one of the most "clutch" racing for big money Group or Grade 1 horses in the world in 2009. With victories in the Prix Ganay, The Prince of Wales Stakes, and the Pacific Hong Kong Cup, beating a star-studded field that yielded Presvis, Collection, Ashalanda, and Eagle Mountain but to name a few. He also has one 2nd place finish to Spanish Moon in the 09' Prix Foy, and one 3rd place finish to Trincot and The Bogberry in the 09' Prix harcourt. If Vision D'Etat adapts and run's well over the Tapeta surface, Gio Ponti and Twice over, already proven stayers on synthetics, may be his only real challenges. But if he struggles on the surface, as did Prix Neil and Arc 3rd place finisher Cavalryman, than the race may become a wide open one. JMO. · 689 days ago ·
