What the Horse Racing Nation is saying about Swaps...

The dictionary defines a nickname as a descriptive or colorful name that serves as a substitute for a real name, one that more readily defines the subject more than the proper name itself. Every year we hear the Kentucky Derby referred to as the "Run for the Roses", or "The Greatest Two Minutes In S...Read More
Here is the great SWAPS!. Art Sherman Up. https://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?fbid=705494262834667&set=a.189145141136251.61389.189123901138375&type=1&theater
Trainer Art Sherman knows the comparisons are unavoidable. His brilliant colt California Chrome, early favorite for the Grade I, $1 million Santa Anita Derby on April 5, is California-bred, chestnut in color, and, most importantly— can run like the wind. Sherman, 77, was well acquainted with another...Read More
Swaps - very under-rated great horse. If he had run in New York and set just a few track records, the would be in the Top10 or Top 5 all time. He set more records on more tracks than any horse I have seen.

  • LAZMANNICK · Hey Icy, it’s amazing what lake effect snow can do. Rochester, on the south side of Lake Ontario, gets tons of it, mainly lake effect, while Cobourg, probably not more than 40-50 miles north actually gets very little (in comparison) because we’re on the north side of the lake (this year is an exception). We are now going into a deep freeze with nighttime temperatures forecast to dip below minus 25 and 26 Celsius. · 108 days ago ·

Swaps won the 1955 Kentucky Derby in a time of 2:01 4/5. His son Chateaugay won the 1963 Derby with the exact same time under the first foreign winning jockey, Braulio Baeza. What other sire-offspring combinations have been victorious in any of the three classic races?

Anyone know why he didn't race in the Preakness or Belmont?

  • ridescloud · Swaps did not run in the preakness or the belmont because he had been shipped by train, from california, rex ellsworth had actually concocted a special diet and a pellat type feed especially for swaps, since they shipped his food with him, by train, they did not have enough to last through to the belmont, not being able to make all three, they opted to 'skip' the preakness and return to california · 548 days ago ·

  • ridescloud · Swaps had a recurring hoof problem due to the original injury involving mud being forced up into the wall of the hoof, consequently, most of the time when swaps was 'in the lead' he was 'eased up' to save the hoof and not run him 'all out', in spite of this Swaps won 19 races, 6 times carrying 130 lbs, more than citation, or nashua could carry to victory. · 548 days ago ·

A recent column by Horse Racing Nation's newest writer, Bill Heller, really got me thinking. In the piece, Heller told of his first ever trip to a thoroughbred racetrack. As luck would have it, him and his buddies were treated to one of Secretariat's earliest powerhouse performances. The race was th...Read More

  • MBPhipps · I recently rewatched the video of Secretariat winning the Belmont, and that brought me to tears...again. But I couldn't possibly decide on what I would have wanted my FIRST race horse experience to be. As it stands, I can't remember who it actually was! What I am grateful for though, is the fact that my years around the track have included visits to the winner's circle with some of the finest horses in their class the country. · 996 days ago ·

I just finished adding Swaps career races. What an amazing horse with a 25 19-2-2 lifetime record! If anyone has any video of his races, please add them in.
He could do almost anything. His multiple records, including those outside of California were remarkable. He stands among the greatest.
As a horse racing fan I enjoy the chance to talk about racing at any time. I’m liable to start chatting with anyone at the track about an upcoming race such as the Kentucky Derby or perhaps the Breeders Cup Classic. It’s always nice to hear what others have to say and to share my own input...Read More
