Older Comments about Sun Briar...

I am amazed that every horse in the 2008 derby was a descendant of this great sire but no one has listed him prior to this post!!!!

  • Buckpasser · What I think is more accurate on this thread is that all 2008 Derby contenders in some way either through Sword Dancer or Mr. prospector through Count Fleet trace back to a dam in Sweet Briar that breeding wise was the cream of Marcel Broussacs French breeding stock. Sweet briar herself only had from I can find only 4 possibly 5 named foals. So this quite an accomplisment · 1110 days ago
  • Buckpasser · TBDF. I am a lot older than you are so my knowledge of older horses that you may read about were more current to me. You have to remember that horses I saw race or saw at say Spendthrift like Nashua, Swaps etc are distance memories. For horses I followed like say Buckpasser, MOW was in the 2nd or no farther back than third generation.(Busanda Buckpasser's dam was by War Admiral). Now those horses are barely if that in a five generation pedigree · 1110 days ago
Ironic part was that he wasn't considered that great a sire at the time nor was Sun Beau. Sun Briar actually was bred to about twenty mares between his three and four yr old seasons
