What the Nation is saying about Summer Squall...

As a son of the top sire, and 1977 Triple Crown winner, Seattle Slew, and out of the excellent broodmare, Weekend Surprise, herself a daughter of a Triple Crown winner, Secretariat, hopes were high that A.P Indy would be something special. A $2.9 million yearling purchase of Tomonori Tsurumaki, just...Read More

  • MikeRullo · A.P. Indy would have been a triple crown winner, I was at his peter pan stakes win 2 weeks before the belmont , no problem running back quickly would have won the triple crown · 126 days ago ·

  • tmallios1 · Absolutely agree with all the comments. In regards to his incredible success as a sire. When i was in the buisiness,i was told that the important feature was the throat. If a horse could not get normal air flow, all the rest was irrelevant. The vet we used also worked on Indy as well as many other All time greats. His knickname for him was affectionately "The Grand Canyon" . A major reason for his Stamina prodgeny. On the race track , at his very best. Indy was incomparable with his contemporaries. He truly was one of the All Time greats. · 126 days ago ·

Can a horse who never had any Breeders’ Cup success still be considered a great horse? Housebuster was proof that the answer is yes. His outstanding record and his flare while winning earned him repeat wins of the Eclipse Award as the Outstanding Sprinter in 1990 and 1991, making him the only horse ...Read More
Archtypical bleeder. Just watched a series that pinpointed what to look for when a bleeder breaks through. When they are running down the stretch, the horse will start raising its head higher with each stride akin to trying to keep their head above water..or in this case, the level of blood in the lungs. Look for it next time
All told, Premier Pegasus won 4 of 5 starts, with one 3rd, and earned $293,400, but of course these numbers full of promise mean nothing. PrePeg was a horse with potential to be great. Maybe he would have been, or maybe not. We will never know. In one day, in one moment, in one split-second, a livin...Read More

Everyone remembers Animal Kingdom’s rise to fame last spring when he parlayed an impressive win in Turfway Park’s Vinery Racing Spiral Stakes with a glorious run for the roses on the first Saturday in May, but he was not the only superstar to make Turfway’s premier Kentucky Derby prep their very own...Read More

  • bellesforever1 · LOVED Hard Spun..was my guy then and now..all heart all the time.To Vic..HS ran his heart out in The Classic and the Derby and in any other year would have had a great chance to win them both so saying he couldn't run past 9 panels isn't really fair because he did.He was at his best under that but he has nothing to hang his head about. He always showed up and ran his race and ducked no one.Thank you Brian for the walk down memory lane.Hard Sun Baby!! · 753 days ago ·

  • PrePeg01 · I agree blooy...when the pace was sizzling..Pegasus was content to say behind and make his run after the 1/4 pole...if the pace is not fast in the Ky Derby or in SA Derby..I can see him being versatile enough to stay up closer (if need be) and still make a nice kick home. · 1109 days ago ·

  • brent.austin.neikirk · I was there when his daddy won it! I like this horse a lot! Has a great pedigree and shouldn't have a problem getting the 10f Derby distance. He has the tactical speed and he gets plenty of stamina especially from his BMS, Summer Squall and The Axe. I think he's starting to peak and he could run a big one come May 7th. · 1109 days ago ·

One morning the week of the Kentucky Derby, trainer Tim Ice was asked if he thought the race might be a little ambitious for Summer Bird, who at that point had raced just three times.
