  • 12thCrown · Not sure how many of you frequent Oaklawn, so while there won't be a "Cougar Day" per se, there are plenty of eligible ladies and dudes hanging around the second level sports bar. Seriously though, it's an extremely social place where people do care about the horses. · 14 days ago ·

  • shadowno · Unless Stay Thirsty pops and wins the BCC this should be a no brainer for Animal Kingdom. He won the race they all wanted to win, ran a big Preakness and was injured likely during the running of the Belmont. Even with a BCC win it doesn't get any bigger than Kentucky Derby. · 116 days ago ·

  • RaTalk_Girl · shadowno, interesting thoughts. I cannot disagree that every 3 year old wants that Derby win, but is it really enough. I do think that your argument about his Preakness run could change my mind. He looked great in the Derby and I do not think the way he ran in the Preakness is second to anyone. It will be interesting to see what the rest of the season brings. · 116 days ago ·

  • likin sparks · I know where Mike is coming from, with this years race is kinda weak where half the competion has had a difficult time placing in the money so I wouldn't think the WOW factor will be there. As much as I haven't been sold on Stay Thirsty for him not to win by 7 or 10 lenghts would be a kick in the can. · 129 days ago ·

  • brooklyn.steve · Stay Thirsty should win the JCGC, which should make him the co fav for Horse of the Year with HDG. He has come along nicely, and while Flat Out will be a tough challenge, Mike Repole will be standing in the winners circle at the end of the day. · 129 days ago ·

“Rest in Peace, Kensei.” I saw those words last week on Facebook, and my heart just sank. Kensei had been a horse that I watched and admired for the better part of four seasons, and in the time that it took me to read four simple words, I knew he was gone. Kensei was a five-year-old son of Mr. Greel...Read More

I just received a breaking news flash by e-mail via Bloodhorse.com that 2009 Belmont Stakes, Travers Stakes, and Jockey Club Gold Cup winner Summer Bird has been officially retired. The article stated that Summer Bird had not improved from the leg fracture he sustained while training for the Japan Cup (Dirt). Summer Bird proved to be one of the tougher 3yr.old's in 2009, and really proved his metal. I was really looking forward, given the way that Quality Road has been racing so far in 2010, to seeing a Summer Bird-Quality Road rematch in either the 2010 Travers Stakes or the 2010 Jockey Club Gold Cup. Or both? Best of luck to Summer Bird in his future endevours in the breeding shed.
