Strong Suit, pointing to the Arcadia Stakes on Feb. 2, worked five furlongs in 59.80 for Simon Callaghan, who has Jamie Spencer coming in from Europe for the ride. “He’s the owner’s retained rider,” Callaghan explained. “The horse worked very well. I couldn’t be happier.”

  • ILuvTurfRacing · Over the years, you hear about some incredible stories surrounding great thoroughbreds. But this one takes the all time prize for me. It was reported on the front page of the Racing Post newspaper in England that just days ago in his final work leading up to Saturday's Locking Stakes, Frankel not only beat his lead horse by 20 lengths over 7f on poly-track. He also outran a train. The 7:13 service to Cambridge. · 370 days ago ·

  • Cigar16 · The debacle that occured on Thursday from the fallout of CD's decision to not open the turf course for training has become a situation that I now find to be just as humorous (somebody please take Michael Stoute's deplorable trackside rant and make a comical YouTube video of it!) as it is shameful! Shameful for both entities. Despite CD's effort to make trainers aware by broadcasting on several occasions via the PA system the possibility of grass course training closure due to a threat of precipitation, a mess still ensued. WHY, did CD close the course a nanosecond before the scheduled opening? HELLO? I get that it was for legit reasons, but making that decision without facilitating your freaking public/horsemen relations department etc in preemptive coordination with the Euro's was appalling. This is not a normal event. Sorry, but CD definitely dropped that ball! But on the flip side is who the hell does John Gosden, and the most obnoxious, self entitled jackass Michael Stoute think they are in that they feel they can remedy their inconvenience by doing as they please in disregarding the closure, attempting to DISMANTLE the railing, and helping themselves to the course as if they were at home and having a backyard BBQ??? OMG! I was embarrassed for them! We can only hope that this will be at the very least a learning experience for the future.. All of that being said, and being one of the last people to look the other way as protocol is not adhered to, I do not speak lightly when I say that in the grand scheme of things, 10, 20, or a 100 years from now as an American racing fan I DO NOT WANT the unpleasant stigma that would have been ours FOREVER had the stewards DQ'ed Goldikova to LAST, therefore forever tarnishing her image. I am so glad the stewards proved diplomatic, thought of the consequences, and made the RIGHT DECISION! · 563 days ago ·

I'm sure going into the 2011 season, Strong Suit was not likely the card that was on trainer Richard Hannon's mind that he would have to play in this year's Breeders Cup Mile. But I'm also quite certain that Hannon didn't foresee the early retirement of Canford Cliffs either. But thing's having turned out like they have, Hannon announced to England's Racing Post today that the 3yr.old son of Rahy will indeed make his next start in the G1 Prix De l' Foret in France, and then come to Churchill Downs for the Breeders Cup Mile. Strong Suit is certainly not a Canford Cliffs. But he is a talented 3yr.old. He won the G2 Coventry Stakes for Hannon as a 2yr.old in 2010. So far in 2011, Strong Suit has defeated Codemaster in the G3 Jersey Stakes at Ascot, and he also defeated Red Jazz in the G2 Lennox Stakes at Goodwood. In Strong Suit's only G1 start this season, he was officially announced as having finished 3rd in the G1 Prix Jean-Prat at Longchamp. A race that saw Mutual Trust, Zoffany, and Strong Suit all 3 hit the wire together in a blanket finish. A finish that had to be sorted out by a photo. Strong Suit's only out of money finish in 2011 was in his seasonal debut in the G3 Greenham Stakes at Newbury. He finished 6th in a race totally dominated by Frankel.
There are some exciting races of very talented horses which leave one feeling regret that just one wins.  Dead heats of three horses rarely happen and it did not happen today in Chantilly.Juddmonte's Mutual Trust (Cacique IRE) thrust through hard-working Strong Suit USA (Rahy USA) and evens-fav...Read More

  • medlocke · Frankel doesn't have a cake walk by any means in Saturday's Greenham Stakes at Newbury. He's up against some stiff competition in the Coventry Stakes winner at Ascot in Strong Suit, and his very tough stablemate, Picture Editor. · 769 days ago ·

  • medlocke · Frankel's 2011 debut in the Greenham Stakes at Newbury turned out to be a race he just won for fun. He cantered all over his stablemate, Picture Editor, who's no mug himself. For the first half of the race, Frankel's head was to one side, and he was hanging down the camber quite a bit. But even that couldn't stop this beast. Frankel's got one of the most dominating mid-race moves I've ever seen on a horse. When Thomas Queally ask him to go win his race, Frankel just explodes away. After his debut win in the Greenham today, it's really hard to picture anyone beating Frankel in the 2000 Guineas. JMO. · 767 days ago ·

Strong Suit was replaced as favourite for next year's 2,000 Guineas when 'mugged' by the strong-finishing Zoffany, who gave trainer Aidan O'Brien his 11th win from the last 13 runnings of The Curragh's Keeneland Phoenix Stakes on Sunday. Read More
  • medlocke · For the people who don't care about the politics of Europe vs. America in the Breeders Cup races. And go to the event for the joy of watching the best horses in the world race. And also bet to make money off of those horses, whether they're from Europe or America? These comments are directed toward you. The Coolmore-Ballydoyle colt Zoffany, trained by Aidan O'Brien, is without question among the very best of the best of the European 2yr.old's. 5 wins in 6 lifetime starts. Zoffany's only loss was in the G2 Coventry Stakes at Ascot. To another top level 2yr.old, Strong Suit. But Zoffany was very badly hampered in the Coventry. Squeezed out between Strong Suit and Galtymore Lad. Ending up finishing 6th in the Coventry. But since the Coventry Stakes. Zoffany has won the Golden Fleece Stakes. A listed race. The G3 Tyros Stakes. Won by Rip Van Winkle in 2009. And most recently, made up for the Coventry flop by defeating Strong Suit with a powerful run in the G1 Phoenix Stakes. Zoffany is a very big and physical 2yr.old. He looks like he's been chiseled from stone. O'Brien will likely send this colt to America for the Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf. If he does send Zoffany? As a handicapper who keeps up with European racing as closely as American racing. I strongly recommend a bet on this Ballydoyle 2yr.old. I just haven't seen any American turf 2yr.old's that are in Zoffany's league. He's already a G1 winner as a 2yr.old. · 986 days ago ·
