Stagehand's two year old campaign is complete. Never in his life would he win a race less than a mile, a testament to his stamina and distance ability. Times may seem exceeding slow, but Saratoga and Belmont were very slow in 1937 as well as Empire City has never been a paticullarly fast track.

78 years and he is still the only horse to win the Santa Anita Handicap as a three year old. Beating Seabiscuit, Pompoon, Top Row, Ligaroti, Gosum, and Sceneshifter was something, and then doing it in track record time... The 30lb weight impost probably helped a little bit.

buckpasser · Cocoa. You can always submit his name for consideration at the Hall of Fame in Saratoga. Since you can submit the name if you visit, I assume you can submit it online. I would look at their website for info or even call them. I do know they take public suggestions for nominations. · 6 days ago ·

LAZMANNICK · Stagehand won by a nose carrying 100 lbs. and Seabiscuit carrying 130. Seabiscuit actually led for almost the final half mile of the race and Stagehand got up to beat him by that nose. In spite of the weight difference that was a tremendous feat for a three year old to defeat top handicap males that early in the season. · 6 days ago ·

Sullivan · He certainly did put Earl Sande into leading trainer and without a doubt he put his broodmare sire, Fair Play, into the Leading Broodmare Sire of 1938. He beat Discovery, Bull Lea, Top Row, his brother Sceneshifter, as well as aforementioned Seabiscuit. While conceeding him 30 pounds, Seabiscuit was coming off a longer layoff into the race to Stagehand's 11 days · 5 days ago ·
