What the Nation is saying about St Trinians...

St Trinians, who gave the undefeated champion Zenyatta a scare in the Grade 1 Vanity Handicap at Hollywood Park in June before losing by a half-length, will miss the $300,000 Clement Hirsch Stakes at Del Mar on Aug. 7 because of soreness, trainer Mike Mitchell said on Saturday.St Trinians will be tu...Read More
Trainer Mike Mitchell reports that St. Trinians is body sore and will be given a break. "I said, 'If she's not right, I don't want to run her if she's not 100 percent,'" Mitchell said. "We'll give her a break, no more than three months. I'll probably get my hands on her in November or December.
St. Trinians is getting better and better. If Zenyatta keeps facing her, and runs into some serious trouble, the streak might be in jeopardy. They might want to think harder about shipping east?
  • humphrey · A very good one, BUT if the mare's luck or lack of it that will be the deciding factor in the streak. · 30 days ago

  • mdracing69 · Zenyatta and St Trinians could meet again in the Aug 7 Clement Hirsch at Del Mar. The shorter distance (8.5f) of the Hirsch could favor St Trinians, who reportedly threw her left front shoe in the Vanity. · 47 days ago
  • manderson1119 · I think Mike Mitchell should play a quick game of hide and go f*** himself......The DRF reports he texted John Sherrifs and told him to keep "Zenyatta out California". What a piece of crap, sore looser........and she threw a shoe???? No one that I know on and off the track at Holleywood park has mentioned that.........what a craptastic sore looser.... They all get beat, or so the saying goes. Eclipse never did though. In fact, the English colt retired in 1771 with a perfect record of 19-for-19 because there was no competition left to take him on. You know the saying: “Eclipse first, the rest nowhere.” Colin was undefeated, too, winning 15 straigh...Read More

  • medlocke · St. Trinians will be the best filly or mare that Zenyatta has faced thus far in 2010. By far. St. Trinians is a very legitimate contender, that's won some races since coming to America from racing in the UK. She had also won some races, or ran very well in races in the UK as well. Similar to a Tuscan Evening, although she hasn't won as much in America as Tuscan Evening. St. Trinians won the Paseana Handicap in January and the Santa Maria Handicap in February, a Grade I win. Many thought St Trinians was going to challenge Zenyatta in March in the Santa Margarita Handicap. But St Trinians connection passed on that race in favor of running her in the 2010 Santa Anita Handicap. Where she gave a very solid 6th place effort to a very good field of older males. I don't look for St. Trinians to beat Zenyatta. But I do look for her to run a big race in the Vanity Handicap. This is certainly a mare that Mike Smith doesn't want to fall asleep on, and give her too much rope in the race. Like he did in the 2009 Clement L. Hirsch at Del-Mar, when he left Zenyatta far too much to do, and took her far too wide to do it in that race. It was only Zenyatta's extraordinary athleticism that saved the race for them on that day. If Smith were to make that same kind of mistake against St. Trinians in this race? It could certainly cost Zenyatta the title of most consecutive win's in a row without a defeat that she's been chasing for some time. JMO. · 53 days ago
Trainer John Shirreffs said Sunday that Zenyatta, undefeated in 16 races, will start under top weight of 129 pounds in the $250,000 Vanity Handicap on June 13 at Hollywood Park. Saturday’s pick six from Santa Anita Park includes four graded races. The feature event is the Grade 1 Big Cap, and it could turn into a match race between classy turfer Loup Breton and talented distaffer St Trinians. There is a 60% chance of showers with a high temperature of 62. Read More
When a 5-year-old mare named St Trinians heads postward in Saturday's running of the $750,000 Santa Anita Handicap (G1), she'll attempt to become the first female winner in the race's 73-year history. The gamble of starting Loup Breton in Saturday's $750,000 Santa Anita Handicap is one worth taking, trainer Julio Canani insists. • Medlocke · Enough with the breezing times, and 6 furlong drills. Let's get to some racing already. I just had a gentleman on YouTube e-mail me and tell me that not only will Rachel Alexandra beat Zenyatta, that she will likely be in hand across the wire in doing so. His comment was that other than the B.C. Classic, Zenyatta had never faced any real competition. If competition is the question here, other than Summer Bird, who has Rachel Alexandra beaten that is so much tougher than the horses that Zenyatta has beaten? Someone please tell me, because I truly don't know who they are. Every time I read a post concerning Zenyatta and Rachel Alexandra, inevitably, without failure, there's always someone that comments on how weak Zenyatta's competition has been. But there's never any follow up on all the alleged "great horses" names that Rachel Alexandra has beaten. I think it would be fair to say that Rachel Alexandra has raced colts more times successfully, but Zenyatta has beaten better colt's singularly. And in regard to other fillies, they've both raced fillies who were extremely over matched. As for the comment of Rachel Alexandra being in hand across the wire, doubtful. There's no doubt that Rachel Alexandra can, and may beat Zenyatta. But I don't see her drawing away from the best deep closer in racing by enough lengths to be "in hand" across the wire. • Rossington · Zenyatta breezed 6 furlongs at Hollywood Park in 1:13.20. Rachel Alexandra just breezed 6 furlongs over a fast main track at Louisiana Downs in 1:14.00 flat. For anyone trying to handicap the upcoming Apple Blossom, make of those work's what you will. · 153 days ago
