What the Horse Racing Nation is saying about Spicer Cub...

Hard to believe it's been almost a year since my main man Spicer Cub took the road race course. Head on view action of the stretch at 5:00. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbH3N5VJzBE

  • Jay S. · Yeah buzz, wasn't it something? If he runs a straight line, he woulda been so far in front that the track announcer may have referenced him as a "well-oiled machine." :) I love the way the jockey never gave up. · 104 days ago ·
  • UnionRagsRules · I think if they race him some more this year and get him straightend out, he could develop into a good graded stakes horse. · 103 days ago ·

  • CauseForConcern · @Jay S. re: Clydesdales at Oaklawn. I remember a mile and a sixteenth race, where it had earlier been raining. The thoroughbreds broke from the gate and were rounding into the first turn. In the meantime, the team of clydesdales were trying to pull the gate, but weren't getting any traction, due to the soft footing. As the contenders were battling into the backstretch, people started running out onto the track to assist pushing the gate. As the thoroughbreds were coming into the home stretch, there must've been near fifty people helping with the gate. As the contenders battled down the stretch, there finally was success in moving the gate, avoiding what could've been a near tragedy. I thought that after that accident was avoided, that the clydesdales were no longer used? All I remember was that I had a vested interest in the outcome of the race, but, I was more concerned with the gate getting off the track, than the whereabouts of my betting interest. · 405 days ago ·
  • Jay S. · Wow CFC, I wasn't aware that had happened. I've only had the opportunity to go to Oaklawn about 10 times in the last three years (before that, it was the early 90s). I didn't see the Clydesdales, but thought nothing or it since they weren't used that often. · 405 days ago ·

Returns to the track on Saturday at Pimlico.
I think that was a 007 horse! Talk about a jockey making himself more narrow than he is going through the gate at high speed!!!! AND Spicer almost won the race! THAT NEVER HAPPENS!
Double take! What just happened?

  • cocoa2 · I regretting not being able to see Spendthrift and Darley, one of my first favorite horses was Tizway who stands at Spendthrift. Was Leslie Combs (right last name?) there when you went? I was speaking to a man about the sales and supposedly he was something of a legend around Keeneland's Sales Rings · 449 days ago ·
  • Buckpasser · Yes he was. · 449 days ago ·
