What the Nation is saying about Spanish Moon...

Spanish Moon, who had been a best-priced 10-1 for the Breeders' Cup Turf at Churchill Downs, has been retired. The Sir Michael Stoute-trained six-year-old won six of his 16 starts, including the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud, and nearly £1.8 million in win and place prize-money.   He has not been se...Read More
Each year, it seems the Breeders’ Cup Turf (gr. IT) paints the same bleak picture for the American grass horses. Whether it’s Conduit, who captured the last two BC Turfs, or the 10-1 Red Rocks in 2006, or the 1,2,3,4 Euro blitz in 2005, the Americans have had a tough time defending their home turf. Read More

  • medlocke · Difficult, but not impossible. Goldikova is still on top of her game. But she has lost a step from her 2008 and 2009 Breeders Cup Mile-Turf victories. I think the 2010 B.C. Mile-Turf will prove to be Goldikova at her most vulnerable in any of her three attempts. If Sidney's Candy run's the 8 furlongs of the B.C. Mile anything at all like he ran the 8-1/2 furlongs of the La Jolla Handicap, setting a new Del Mar turf course record for 8-1/2 furlongs in his only lifetime start on turf, I think he has a big chance. He ran those 8-1/2 furlongs like he was in a 6 furlong sprint race. Also, if the Court Vision that showed up and won the 2010 Woodbine Mile run's that well in the B.C.Mile-Turf? He's got a very realistic chance at beating the Euro's as well. I'd say the Euro's have an advantage. But America does have a couple of turf mile contenders in Sidney's Candy and Court Vision that are more than capable of springing the upset. JMO. · 1003 days ago ·

Juddmonte Farms, who already has Breeders' Cup victories with Banks Hill (2001) and Intercontinental (2005), could have a strong presence in this year's World Championships with several horses, including Midday, who is targeting the $2 million Emirates Airline Filly & Mare Turf (gr. • medlocke · You'd better believe Juddmonte Farms will have a strong presence at this year's Breeders Cup races. Prince Khalid Abdullah has surrounded himself with one of the strongest racing stables anywhere in the world. Every bit equal to, or even better than Godolphin's or Coolmore-Ballydolye's. Despite being by far the class horse in the race. Spanish Moon finished a well beaten 4th in yesterday's Princess of Wales Stakes at Newmarket. Really, only 2009 Queen's Vase winner, Holberg, should have been any competition for Spanish Moon in the race, and he finished 5th. I believe Spanish Moon just encountered the same problem at Newmarket that Dar Re Mi just encountered last weekend in the Coral-Eclipse Stakes at Sandown. Both were coming into their races off of a long lay-off. Neither having raced since Spanish Moon ran 3rd and Dar Re Mi won the 2010 Sheema Classic back in March in Dubai. Dar Re Mi was a well beaten 4th to Twice Over in the Coral-Eclipse Stakes. Spanish Moon a well beaten 4th to Sans Frontieres in the Princess of Wales Stakes.
Pat Generazio’s front-running Presious Passion figures to carry them a long way March 27 in the Dubai Sheema Classic Sponsored by Guangsha Group (UAE-I). The $5 million turf race has drawn a full slate of 16 runners ready to go 1 1/2 miles over the new Meydan turf course. The race has an Easter...Read More
  • Medlocke · William Buick got Dar Re Mi to settle early in the race, and she just got a beautiful trip in the 2010 Dubai Sheema Classic. Spanish Moon closed very strongly as well, but Dar Re Mi had enough left in the tank to run on by him. Then Spanish Moon got nailed, in a photo, right at the wire by Buena Vista for second. Presious Passion, as usual, ran himself right out of any chance of winning this race again. Golden Sword, a front runner himself, went out with Presious Passion, and stayed just about 2 or 3 lengths off of him to challenge the pace. But by the time the field hit the 400 meter mark, Presious Passion was DONE, and faded to dead last. Finishing 16th out of 16 starters. For the record, even though P.P. ran a great race against Conduit in the 09' B.C. Turf, getting quality races like that out of him has become a real rarity of late. Because of his running style, I have never, and will never bet dollar one on this horse. TJMO. · 1179 days ago ·

WILLIAM BUICK made a dream start to his partnership with John Gosden as he gave Dar Re Mi a well-judged ride to land the Group 1 Dubai Sheema Classic. Buick had the mare settled in fifth position from the off in the 1m4f contest as Presious Passion made sure they went a good gallop... Read More
  • bband · Dar Re Mi ran huge today. Ironically, about 5 minutes before the race, on the simulcast signal, trainer John Gosden when asked about her chances, says he looks for her to run well, but "Let's be honest, its late March and she's a mare, I don't expect her to be at her best until later in the year." Good lesson why you should never listen to trainers and they don't even know when their horses are doing great. · 1179 days ago ·
