  • AmbitiousD · Mo really ran his heart out as if almost telling his owner he wanted to keep racing. I truly hope Repole doesn't retire Mo. These horses are athletes and warriors and in any major sport, there will be injuries and illnesses when competing at the top level of competition. Imagine if every NFL QB retired after receiving a concussion. It's difficult to watch horses get retired with such a "half glass empty," or a "what could go wrong, will go wrong" mentality. True champions are defined by the adversities they overcome and proving their greatness.Common Mikey, let him run!!! · 158 days ago ·

  • DeadHeat · He made the comment right after the race. I don't believe any channel showed it, but it was reported on DRF and USA Today that he said that. However, he now seems much more upbeat. It looks as though Mo will go to the PA Derby, where he will face THAS. · 158 days ago ·

  • AubreyKidder · I think Uncle Mo's was. He came back from a possibly deadly disease and almost won even after losing a shoe! He ran the fastest 7F on the card that day. Don't get me wrong, The Factor's return was very impressive, but I go with Mo all the way. · 158 days ago ·

  • 12 Clip · I think Bonde is doing the right thing. Smiling Tiger showed how great he really is yesterday in my opinion. He broke very slow, and was taken back some eight lengths, as Euroears was uncontested on the front end. When they turned for home Smiling Tiger was still in last but starting to rally. He managed to get free on the outside and started devouring ground up. He easily passed Amazombie a very nice sprinter for the place and was gaining on Euroears. This is horseracing and nobody gets a perfect trip. This was Bonde's first horse he saddled for the Del Mar meet and he ran a game second in a Grade 1 event, earning his owners $50,000. Last time I checked, that's a lot better than a kick to the head. Bonde is one of the best conditioners in the country. So to say he's mismanaged Smiling Tiger and Sway Away is basically a joke. He also trains one the best 3-year-old turf fillies in the country in Cambina. · 186 days ago ·

James and Marilyn Helzer’s amazingly fast Euroears, with jockey Rafael Bejarano along for the ride, set a track record of 1:08.17 Sunday with a brilliant performance in the featured Grade I $250,000 Bing Crosby Stakes before 17,109 fans.Read More
Smiling Tiger was beaten once the gates opened in the Bing Crosby today. He broke late, then had to check off of heals, then took awhile to fully get into his stride. I think it was amazing that he was able to get up for 2nd in this race as poorly as he broke. But Euroears is very legit sprinter. You just can't give a horse with the kind of speed that Euroears has that big of an advantage in a 6f race. Euroears impressed me with how well he ran against Rocket Man in this year's Golden Shaheen in Dubai. You don't run to within a length or two of Rocket Man the way Euroears did in that race and not have legitimate speed.

  • ajump08 · I know they don't want to commit him to the lead, but blinkers may be a needed addition. Its tough to do what he's trying to do (come from behind) in sprints. It leaves to much in the hands of the horses on the lead. · 187 days ago ·

  • ghelguera · Rosario has been taking his horses way back, which makes too much for the horse to do and swings them very wide and end up for 2nd or 3rd. That was the reason I stood away from Tiger because of the way Rosario has been riding. · 187 days ago ·

Asked for an assessment of the current state of the sprint division on a national teleconference call earlier this week, Smiling Tiger trainer Jeff Bonde was forthright and, some might say, parochial. “I still think that the West Coast horses are stronger, that’s only my opinion.
