  • Sullivan · That race at Keeneland was really weird · 171 days ago ·
  • LanieJohnson · I've been hunting for info about him..saw him race at Keeneland last Fall in that downpour...he ran a darn good race...I still believe he's got talent and hope to see him back to have a good career at some point...no known breezes for awhile · 96 days ago ·

This past weekend, the 2014 Kentucky Derby Trail really started to heat up with The Lecomte at the Fair Grounds and The Smarty Jones over at Oaklawn. Here’s my take on what to make of these events moving forward.Read More

  • CauseForConcern · When you mention the Smarty Jones(and Lecomte), not much credence would be put into this race as a prep race, but Oxbow and Will Take Charge emerged in the big showcase later on. Curious to see if anyone develops out of either of these races? Nevertheless, nice angle on your analysis. · 165 days ago ·

The Grade 3 Lecomte at the Fairgrounds in New Orleans features a field of nine Kentucky Derby hopefuls vying for the first Derby Points being offered this year down on the bayou. • CauseForConcern · I tend to like Got Shades, with Albarado. This is the second entrant of trainer Pish. Not sure if one is in the race to set up for the other. I wonder if any horsemen would shy away from going the Fair Grounds route, when Grindstone in 1996 and the next nearest Louisiana Derby winner being Black Gold in 1924, because of the lack of Ky Derby success that had followed? · 174 days ago ·
  • two4nine · I'll take Vicar's in Trouble. A Maker-trained, Ramsey-owned colt with Rosie up. Big speed, a jump in class, and first route, but I think he'll simply be faster than the rest. · 173 days ago ·
Would like to see him get in the gate. On the subject of Derby, I know certain gates have produced more winners, 5,4,1,10 historically have many winners. Anyone know historically or statistically what the most likely exacta is based on post position success?
Brereton C. • Mike in SB · It is hard to compare any of these horse to Arazi, he could of won that race giving the others a head start. It will be tough for both the outside horses but they might just be good enough, I'm not sure about the California horses yet. This might be one of those races where you should look for a longshot winner, I like Cleburne a little, he might be worth a bet if the odds are right. · 252 days ago ·

  • pedigree_power · and that's why we call it handicapping! Your post about population vs single entity, there's the whole problem with the Nicking tools. Nicks are only worth noting if the sire has runners from the mares of the broodmare sire. OR, if he is a new sire, his 1st tail sire from the broodmare sire. True Nicks uses "X" sire and his sons and grandsons and "Y" broodmare sire and his sons/grandsons" how vague can you get?? Yet they charge big bucks for this "pedigree tool."
