What the Horse Racing Nation is talking about...

A regally-bred Smart Strike colt sparked a flurry of bids that boosted his price to $400,000 and made him the most expensive horse sold so far during the opening session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. March select sale of 2-year-olds in training. Donato Lanni, the bloodstock services director of H...Read More

Life Is Sweet, winner of the 2009 Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic (G1) and stablemate of undefeated champion Zenyatta, was retired on Saturday after she developed stomach cramps following a workout at Hollywood Park, the Daily Racing Form reports.Read More
  • Medlocke · Really ironic. That's how the "Sport of King's" plays out sometimes. After John Shirreffs saddle's both the 2009 Breeders Cup Ladies Classic champion in Life is Sweet, and the Breeders Cup Classic champion in Zenyatta, everyone is lead to believe that Zenyatta will be retired, and Life is Sweet will, at that point, become the #1 filly/mare, if not horse period, in John Shirreffs racing stable. Now, on the day that Zenyatta is set to return to the track, Life is Sweet is set for retirement. IMO, Life is Sweet was a very high quality filly that was more than capable of holding her own, and showed that, against Zenyatta, and the best of the best fillies in racing by winning the 2009 Breeders Cup Ladies Classic. Also, ran a great 3rd against the colt's in the 2009 Hollywood Gold Cup. It really is another, not only quality filly, but quality horse lost to the track. Your racing ability will be sorely missed. All the best to Life is Sweet in retirement. May her breeding successes go on to equal her racing successes. · 4 days ago
  • luvzenyatta · WOW, I just got home to hear Zenyatta wins #15!, Zardana shocks Rachel, and Life is Sweet is retired. I'm completely overwhelmed :) · 4 days ago
The direct path to the Eclipse Award for champion two-year-old male goes to the winner of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1), or at least it has for the past four years and 12 of the last 13.
