What the Nation is saying about Silky Sullivan...

Allow me to pose this question: If you could be a jockey and go back and ride any horse in any race, who would it be?

  • Jay S. · One time I got him in the "Boston Crab" and made him swear to eternal servant-hood before I released him. Of course, that lasted until I released him. · 3 hours ago ·

I caught the "Inside Information" piece on Silky Sullivan the other night. Holy Cow! How is it possible to be 41 lengths behind in a 6 furlong race and win!? Amazing. I don't think the term "closer" does him justice. It's like he ran in the ninth race and also won the eighth!!!

  • cocoa2 · Silky was quirky. Shoemaker described him as "breaking twice" in a race, as though he was stung by a bee of has woken up. As a yearling he was constantly outrunning his mates. · 177 days ago ·

  • travel_vic · He used to come to GGF every St Patricks Day and one year he broke lose on post parade, traversed the entire course, then trotted peacefully into the winner's circle as if it had been reserved for him...Still looked great when I saw him at 19 when he was the leading quarter horse sire in California. · 177 days ago ·

He was a funny horse, and decided when he wanted to run. His Kentucky Derby is a mystery, except that he was primarily a speed horse.
It's a trait that fascinates race fans like no other. When a horse drops back to last, well behind even the second to last horse, before unleashing a firestorm rally that carries their number from last to first, it is always thrilling. When this last-to-first rush happens in only the time it takes t...Read More

  • Winplacsho · That was visually the best race of the year. I know they went fast early & crawled home late, but no one gains that much ground in the stretch at Calder, EVER! · 681 days ago ·

  • 4everZenyatta · Easily one of the best races I have ever seen. Just stunning. I am a huge MIke Smith fan and was watching the race, and when she dropped back so far, I was like "Shit, he lost" so I went back tor eadnig and then I heard the call that she was gaining. I started screaming. It was just an amazing ride by Mr.Smith and a great run by Sassy's Image. · 681 days ago ·

Ok racing fans, here’s a quiz. No asking your neighbor and no looking in a book. Where is Golden Gate Fields located?? I’m waiting…….. What was that? San Francisco? Ohh you are sooooo close. Let me give you a hint. It borders a large body of water. I know you have heard “where the surf meets the tur...Read More

  • humphrey · When you evaluate a new race track to follow you have to find out two things; 1) does my way of handicapping work here often enough to follow it regularly and 2) probably more important, does this track offer me the prices that will allow me to make a long term profit? GGF pases the first and fails the second test miserably. · 850 days ago ·
