What the Nation is saying about Shanghai Bobby...

Guess who is my top pick for the Derby, right now? Hint: It is not Goldencents, Verrazano, Uncaptured, Itsmyluckyday, Shanghai Bobby, or Super Ninety Nine.Read More

  • coyne.kaylor · He looks stupid because your pick for the Derby won the Belmont? Or because no one in your top ten for the Derby finished in the top ten for the Derby? Not so much... I had Oxbow and LD in a box for the Derby future bets, and it came in the Preakness. Means nothing, the box made me $0. You pick PM to win the Derby and he won the Belmont, means nothing. · 5 days ago ·

Think he could be a serious contender in the BC dirt mile
  • Show All 9 Comments
  • ruffianlover · I will have to agree to disagree with you buds. I never said he would win the MC Mile- just that he would be a serious contender if he comes back healthy. And just because there are other horses that might be good as well at a mile- doesn't mean they will enter the BC mile. I would think Beholder would most certainly enter into the Ladies Classic not the BC Mile. I honestly don't think Goldencents or Super99 would touch Bobby. Itsmylucky day I think is better at anything over a mile. But I believe until Bobby races at a mile- AND LOSES- he is still a champ in my book · 51 days ago ·

  • Dressage3295 · Like ruffian said- BC CONTENDER. Never said he would win- just that he would have a decent chance. I agree IMLD could probably beat him at a mile if the factors were right. Bobby's career did not end at two- he still has a lot to learn and a lot more to give · 51 days ago ·

even though Shanghai Bobby was a little out classed for the Derby, the sad thing is, he would have had the sufficient points to get in. sucks that he is injured.
  • ruffianlover · sad indeed. Especially when much less caliber horses are entered. But as much as I love him I just don't see him winning it. There are too many horses that could go either way. Although I do think he deserved a chance- if fully healthy, and is Pletcher actually would have had him ready. Seems like he had too many horses to concentrate on this year, and I just don't think he had Bobby in the top shape that he needed to be in to seriously compete with the quality 3 year olds we have this year. · 51 days ago ·

  • kaitlinefree1 · yes ruffian, it is very sad. its just disappointing, because Bobby is a GREAT horse. i think he could get the distance had he been worked with more. he was worked very lightly. · 51 days ago ·

Don’t I ever learn? Has watching racing for the past forty years taught me nothing? Shouldn’t it be clear by now that in racing, anything can happen? I’ll leave all those probing personal questions to be overanalyzed at some future time. For now, I will just tell you that Goldencents will not win th...Read More
