What the Horse Racing Nation is saying about Seville...

This is a horse that as a 3yr.old in 2011 for Coolmore/Ballydoyle finished 2nd in the G2 Dante Stakes at 10-1/2f, 2nd in the G1 Irish Derby and G1 Grand Prix De Paris at 12f, 3rd in the G2 Great Voltigeur Stakes at 12f, and 4th in the G1 English St. Leger at 14-1/2f. So Coolmore sell Seville to new owners to go race in Australia and they send him out first time at 8f where he finishes 4th and at 7f the second time where he finishes 10th. Sorry, but you're just not ever going to turn a horse who needs 12f to be seen to best effective into an Australian sprinter. But a lot of the trainers in that country are so geared to training horses for sprint distances that I sometimes wonder if they'd know a real middle distance horse like Seville obviously is if it bit them square in the a$$.

  • bizl91 · First of all... In Australia, a sprint race is up to 1350m, just short of 7f. So his trainer and owners aren't trying to make him a sprinter, They are called lead up runs, thats how we operate here. Judging by your astute knowledge of all things racing, i'll assume you saw or heard of his 2nd in the G1 Turnbull Stakes over 2000m/10f??? Probably not. He was being set for the Caulfield Cup over 2400m/12f and the Melbourne Cup over 2 miles. He was withdrawn after going amiss today... and if you knew the first thing about Lloyd Williams and Robert Hickmott. You'd know they are geared toward training stayers and nothing else. So before you pass on your great knowledge of all things Australian racing, get a clue brother. Secondly...what is it with Americans acting as if they are the kings of horse racing? You have mediocre races on dirt, claim to have a world champion then send it to England or Dubai for it to run 40L last. · 250 days ago ·

  • medlocke · I think Treasure Beach is a much better horse than the "so-called experts" gave him credit for being. If Mikhail Barzelona mistimes his ride at Epsom on Pour Moi by even a second, we're looking at a dual Derby winner in Treasure Beach. And if history has taught us anything, it's that only special 3yr.old colt's win both the Epsom and Irish Derbies. I.E., Shergar and Galileo both spring to mind immediately as having won both, along with the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes. · 722 days ago ·
