What the Horse Racing Nation is saying about Setsuko...

Setsuko, beaten a nose at 25-1 in last year’s Santa Anita Handicap, punched his ticket for a return trip on March 3 with a comfortable victory in an allowance test in Saturday’s finale. It was the first start for the 5-year-old son of Pleasantly Perfect since the Pacific Classic, in which he finishe...Read More

This column has nothing to do with the defection of Tizway from next Saturday’s Jockey Club Gold Cup, as disappointing as it was, or the horses that will be competing in the mile and a quarter event, even though at this point a good portion of the field appears as if it will be made of horses more l...Read More
Setsuko, who faded to last of nine in the stretch in the Pacific Classic, was gelded on Tuesday, Hall of Fame trainer Richard Mandella reported on Wednesday morning. The Pacific Classic result was the latest in a series of disappointments that has left the son of 2004 Pacific Classic winner Pleasant...Read More

We read through the press kit for today’s 21st running of the $1 million TVG Pacific Classic (to save you the time and bother, no thanks necessary) and came up with the following. • New York Vinnie · TimSmith - ok, I said that with quite a bit of presumptuousness. I believe that it will take at least one Grade 1 win in addition to a Breeders' Cup win to secure the Horse of the Year title. I believe that Blind Luck, already in an almost tie with Tizway, has the easiest path providing she goes in the Distaff. Tizway would have to win the Jockey Club Gold Cup and the Classic, and Cape Blanco would have to win another Grade 1 race in addition to the BC Turf to be the HOY. HvG would have to win the Woodward and either the Distaff or the Classic. Either way, Blind Luck should cruise on in to her HOY honors. IMO. · 168 days ago ·
