What the Horse Racing Nation is saying about Sea Moon...

VERY suprised to still see Sea Moon in the top 15....While Dawn Approach is many spots behind him.
Sea Moon has been purchased by Melbourne Cup-winning owner Lloyd Williams with a view of winning the showcase race in November. He will be trained by Victoria based handler Robert Hickmott.
After finding abnormal bloodwork this morning, Sea Moon has been scratched from the Hong Kong Vase

  • ILuvTurfRacing · I've been checking the cards pretty regularly and as of right now it's just Cirrus Des Aigles and Sweet Orange withdrawn from the HK Cup and Sea Moon withdrawn from the HK Vase. Ambitious Dragon is still in the HK Mile field as of right now. I read a paragraph on-line that described Sea Moon's abnormal blood test results as being similar to the same thing that caused John Gosden to scratch Nathaniel from the Arc De Triomphe last minute this year. · 193 days ago ·

  • yukichan · Three yr olds have been pretty stellar at the Arc. Still, as big of a fan as I am of Camelot, I think Orfevre will be toughg to beat. I agree with ILTR in that his St. leger's effort might have taken something out of Camelot. It is really not the ideal prep for the Arc.... · 258 days ago ·

  • icyhotboo · I watched it again along with his other races that I could get. He doesn't have a quick turn of foot and needs all of 1/4 mile to run an opponent down which he didn't get in the St. Leger. At the 1/4 pole he actually had to be settled and didn't start his run until 3/16 which by that time Encke got first run on him. The jockey rode with a bit to much confidence as though he we driving a car not riding a horse.I did 1mile 6 fur, that has to take a lot. I checked the times of the other St. Leger's run and it was right in the ball park as the others so aside from what I believe to be jockey error he was the best horse. I certainly wouldn't use that as a prep race for anything.Glad I caught your comments as I was thinking of wagering on him, but not now. · 258 days ago ·

Sir Michael Stoute told AtTheRaces.com today that Sea Moon would only run in the G1 Prix De l' Arc De Triomphe on October 7th if the ground at Longchamp should come up soft? Stoute said the G1 Canadian International Stakes at Woodbine the following Sunday is the more likely target of the two for Sea Moon this year.

With so much of the media hype at Royal-Ascot surrounding Black Caviar and the Diamond Jubilee Stakes on Saturday, I think it's really gotten lost in the shuffle what a fantastic race BC Turf runner-up, Sea Moon, ran to win a very competitive renewal of the G2 Hardwicke Stakes today. He had G1 Melbourne Cup and G1 Hong Kong Vase winner, Dunaden, behind him by 3-1/4 lengths officially, and Melbourne Cup runner-up and recent Yorkshire Cup winner, Red Cadeaux behind him by 4 lengths officially. I thought this race was by far the best Sea Moon has looked since he romped away with the G2 Great Voltigeur Stakes at York last season. But this was a much tougher field than he faced at York that day.
Sir Michael Stoute didn't have a runner in the 2011 G1 Sheema Classic in Dubai after having Spanish Moon finish 2nd for him in the 2009 Sheema and 3rd in the 2010 Sheema. Juddmonte elected to send the then Barry Hills trained, now Charlie Hills trained Redwood as their horse in 2011. But I'm hearing that Sir Michael could be back, and in a big way again for the 2012 Sheema Classic. After back to back disappointing efforts in the G1 Canadian International Stakes and the G1 Hong Kong Vase for Redwood in 2011, the Sir Michael Stoute trained Sea Moon heads the Juddmonte list of potential entries for the 2012 Sheema Classic. Sea Moon's coming off a game 2nd place effort to St Nicholas Abbey in the G1 BC Turf back in November. He won the G2 Great Voltigeur Stakes at York in a romp in August over 12f, and finished 3rd behind Masked Marvel and Brown Panther in the G1 St. Leger at Doncaster over 1-3/4. Sea Moon had a bit of a troubled trip in the St. Leger, and probably should have finished at least 2nd that day. This horse gets the 12f strong, and has already shown the ability to stay at 14f. If he runs at a level of form in the Sheema comparable to what he ran at York, Doncaster, and Churchill Downs? Sir Michael Stoute could finally get one of his horses into the Sheema Classic winners circle after being really close in 2009 and 2010. JMO.

  • medlocke · I'm really happy for Aidan and young Joseph O'Brien. But most of all, I'm really happy for St. Nicholas Abbey winning the BC Turf. Everyone in the UK had St Nicholas Abbey down as the "second coming" when he went unbeaten as a 2yr.old in 2009, and ended that season with win's in the G2 Beresford Stakes in Ireland, and by mauling the G1 Racing Post Trophy field at Doncaster. Then he had a disappointing 6th place finish in the G1 English 2000 Guineas as a 3yr.old as a heavy favorite to win the race, and everyone wrote St Nicholas Abbey off. He's come back this season as a 4yr.old and had a really terrific season from top to bottom. He won the G3 Ormonde Stakes at Chester over 1-3/4. Then defeated Midday at Epsom in the G1 Coronation Cup over 1-1/2. He also had very respectable run's in the G2 Prix Foy and the G1 Prix De l' Arc De Triomphe at Longchamp this season, too. I backed Sea Moon to win the BC Turf. But St. Nicholas Abbey winning the race certainly wasn't a shock result. Both of the horses that Ballydoyle had in the race are top class on their best day. · 591 days ago ·
