  • Sullivan · Dead last against far weaker under the usual Joe Talamo aspiring to be Fred Taral ride makes me think that something is up... horse physically looked better than last time and ran worse. I wish they had waited with this horse. MSW may have come too early if ankle injury came right after. Good luck in the Kentucky Derby. · 14 days ago ·

  • tmallios1 · As i have stated for a while,i think California Chrome is far and away the best 3 yo around. I can understand as to why others do not accept that. In the S.A. Derby i have no clue if he will win or not. Not because he is not good enough,or can't get the OH SO SCARY 9 Furlongs. I feel this way because a logical trainer will not have this as a target race on his dance card, but just a stepping stone. I am hopping that Sherman knows the meaning of the word logical. My post is to all the critics.I know if he loses the chest thumping will begin, the I Told you so will run rampant. Fair enough, you will get your 15 minutes of fame. But for the small chance that CC dominate this field and win off by daylight. What will be the excuse>Was it the predictable and anticipated juiced up track? Or will we go to Plan B and state it is only 9 Furlongs and not The even SCARRIER 10 Furlongs. · 16 days ago ·

  • shackleford · @gojro9 - an alternative explanation could be that Chrome has beat up on a weak group, Candy is a closer on a speed favoring track (thus not trouncing his weaker competition), and Hoppertunity has had to battle because he's facing better competition. We won't know the answer until (at least) after the Derby. · 16 days ago ·

  • rita.polander · Terrific performance By California Chrome in the S. Felipe. I've got him at 30-1 in KDFW pool 2. He's my #1 horse, #2 in Strong Mandate, looking for a strong performance from him in the Rebel. Cal. Chrome romped after a 6 wk. layoff. If the trainer wants to rest him and train him up to the Derby its ok with me. As long as he bolts out of the gate, gets good position, he has the pedigree and staying power, he will be fresh and training well, they will all be chasing him, and getting tired at the top of the long CD stretch. I look for Strong Mandate to be in the mix also, don't be surprised if Lukas trains Strong Mandate up to the derby if he wins the Rebel. · 42 days ago ·

  • skid24 · I love when these types win. He is not bred for 1 1/8 much less 1 1/4. Some who are exceptionally talented or face contenders who are distance challenged as well can overcome this deficiency. · 41 days ago ·

Was pushed to the lead in the opening furlong. NOT his running style. Then they backed him up and he had too much to make up. Speed biased track. Let's see how he does in a different spot... maybe Arkansas Derby? Not a bad performance for his 2nd start.
The 1 1/8 distance of the $100,000 Private Terms Stakes fits the mold of a true Derby prep, but the politics of horse racing at Churchill Downs, Inc. must not believe Laurel Park is a suitable venue for a Derby prep. Read More

Midnight Hawk (Baffert): Last out, seen fading to third in the Robert B. Lewis (G2), this colt is by Midnight Lute. He is a speedster type, like his sire. Campaigned by Baffert, and Pegram, this colt is still looking like the main Derby threat in Baffert’s barn. Things may change here.Read More
