What the Nation is saying about Rustler Hustler...

Back on the turf and in fine form, Brilliant Speed heads a competitive field of eight in Saturday's 62nd running of the Grade 1, $250,000 Jamaica Handicap at Belmont Park as he tries to become the first 3-year-old male to win two Grade 1 races in 2011. A replay of the Jamaica will be shown as part o...Read More
When he began the year with a victory in the Lecomte Stakes in January at Fair Grounds, Wilkinson automatically became high on a lot of people’s list of Kentucky Derby hopefuls. But if his last race is any indication, Wilkinson’s future appears to be on turf. Kenneth and Sarah Ramsey’s homebred Big Blue Kitten rolled into the Grade 2, $150,000 National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame on a four-race win streak, and with a powerful run along the rail in the lane made it five in a row Friday at Saratoga Race Course.   The lone runner in the field of seve...Read More

It is now 2011 and that means we have officially embarked on the Kentucky Derby trail. Here in the East it’s been difficult to see even the slightest hint of rose blossoms buried beneath 20-30 inches of snow drifts. But, heck, they’ve already run the first Derby prep (the Count Fleet Stakes at Aqued...Read More

Saturday’s pick six from Hollywood Park includes the Grade 1 CashCall Futurity for 2-year-olds traveling a mile and a sixteenth on Cushion Track. Morning line favorite Comma to the Top has rattled off four straight and might get brave if able to sneak away early. There is an 80% chance of showers wi...Read More
The CashCall Futurity is the last chance of the calendar year to see top Kentucky Derby prospects duke it out. This year’s grade 1, mile and 1/16th race at Hollywood Park may not have any of the current favorites for next year’s Run for the Roses, but what it lacks in star power, it makes up for wit...Read More

  • humphrey · Preakness is not the Derby as ANYONE who has acess to the multiple sources (like the last twenty two years of American Racing Manuals here to my left) knows what went on. · 527 days ago ·

  • humphrey · Point being: two year olds RARELY (Street Sense was an exception) signal their prowess to get 10 frulongs this early in their career when they are still learning to apportion their speed. The competitive ones in these ridiculous speed merchant races, have, for the most part, running styles typical of babies: suck up a bunch of air and run till you can`t stand up any longer. · 527 days ago ·

Rustler Hustler has plenty of turf attributes in his pedigree, including inbreeding to Danzig and the tremendous sire Ribot, who is Rustler Hustler’s third damsire. Rustler Hustler’s dam was two for eight on the main track, both wins were at a mile or longer. His sire Ecton Park won the 1 ¼ mile Super Derby but otherwise was a 1 1/8 mile specialist. He hasn’t done much at stud and was sent to Korea in 2009. His best son to date is 2010 Hollywood Derby winner Haimish Hy. Despite the good breeding three generations back, this branch of the female family is very light on blacktype (stakes wins).
Florida invaders Gourmet Dinner and Rustler Hustler exercised on the Hollywood Park main track Wednesday morning after being flown to California Tuesday for the $750,000-guaranteed CashCall Futurity, a Grade I test for 2-year-olds on Cushion Track Saturday.   Gourmet Dinner, based at Calder wi...Read More
Despite a couple of concerns, Rick Dutrow Jr. is confident that with Boys At Tosconova he has a horse that will be a leading contender Kentucky Derby (gr. I) contender by the time May 7, 2011 rolls around. Though not blessed with the ideal 10-furlong pedigree, Dutrow is not troubled about Boys at To...Read More
  • humphrey · Until one sees, with racing challenges, an animal can get 10 furlongs the first Satruday of May. be demonstrating being able to rate at 9 furlongs in March/April of their three year old year, all this conjecture is pure guesswork: Talkin Man, Tasso, Sucess Express, on and on were precosious two year olds and NOTHING ELSE. It is far too early to even know who will grow into their sking at three and who won't. · 528 days ago ·

  • humphrey · Many three year olds even without the pedigree can GET 10 furlongs LATER in their 3rd year: Holy Bull and Chief's Crown were obvious examples....They matured into it but couldn't pull it off earlier. · 528 days ago ·
