  • saratoga john · Watched the race several times again this morning. Guiterrez made two key moves with I'll Have Another. Both occurred at the top of the stretch. One at the start, one coming for home. The first was getting him out of that 2nd gate to a wide open space through the stretch so he could relax the horse through the clubhouse turn. The second was pretty remarkable since this was Guiterrez' first time in a race of this magnitude. When spinning off the turn at the 1/4 pole, he was out in the middle of the track with Went the Day Well. The key move was sliding him back inside to make his run at Bodemeister. The closers that stayed out there kept coming but it was too late. That move was make or break for him in catching the game Bodemeister. Bodemeisters' ability to burn those fractions and still be running at the end was quite impressive. · 18 days ago ·

The 138th running of the Kentucky Derby went according to script from a pace standpoint and I’ll Have Another ran down Bodemeister after sitting the perfect outside stalking trip. Post position was critical in the outcome of Kentucky Derby 2012 and the key was the draw of the speed horses. Bodemeist...Read More
BOB BAFFERT (Bodemeister, second) – “He was doing it easily. He was within himself. He was being pressed, but he’s a brilliant horse. That’s the way he wanted to run. We talked about it before. • ChantalSmithless · I knew that Union Rags' race was over when he left the starting gate. This 20 horse field every year is ridiculous and until something is done about it the best horse is always going to be compromised (not that Rags was the best horse) but look at the quality of the field and the where they finished. Ridiculous! · 21 days ago ·

MIKE SMITH (Bodemeister, second) – “I’m very disappointed, but at the same time I’m just so proud of him. He’s brilliant. He really is. “He was flying leaving there.
