What the Nation is saying about Round Table...

Round Table and Bold Ruler were foaled on the same night at Claiborne. Bold Ruler garnered Horse of the Year honors in 1957, Round Table in 1958. These greats together own a whopping 18 awards, and stood at their birthplace after distinguished racing careers. What other pair of stablemates had such exceptional records? Secretariat and Riva? Others?

Round Table is considered by many to be the greatest American turf horse. He won three turf titles to John Henry’s four. So who was actually the better?

  • shadowno · John Henry ran 83 races with 39 victories. 7 Eclipse awards and twice Horse of the Year. Essentially JH and Round Table were such outstanding animals that IMO you could argue either side and not be wrong. · 375 days ago ·

The date was May 4, 1957. The Soviet Union was only a few months away from sending a dog into space, and in the world of thoroughbred horse racing, one of the most talked about races in history was about to be run under the famed twin spires. The main players were part of what many still call the fi...Read More

A recent column by Horse Racing Nation's newest writer, Bill Heller, really got me thinking. In the piece, Heller told of his first ever trip to a thoroughbred racetrack. As luck would have it, him and his buddies were treated to one of Secretariat's earliest powerhouse performances. The race was th...Read More

  • MBPhipps · I recently rewatched the video of Secretariat winning the Belmont, and that brought me to tears...again. But I couldn't possibly decide on what I would have wanted my FIRST race horse experience to be. As it stands, I can't remember who it actually was! What I am grateful for though, is the fact that my years around the track have included visits to the winner's circle with some of the finest horses in their class the country. · 667 days ago ·

Round Table, John Henry, Manila, Cougar II and Fort Marcy are the top 5 American turf horses, in my opinion.
1957- Bold Ruler,Gallant Man, then Round Table

I started a poll, there on the left, a few days ago and the more I considered the votes coming in, the more I realized it required a little write-up. These are the ten crops that I have identified as the best in American racing history. To qualify, the horses did not need to be bred in...Read More
